Is the knot as dense as chubby? I sent an email to Brend twice over the past month but have not received a reply.. Sad

What is the recommended loft for a 26 mm knot?
Thanks

I'm not able to compare to a chubby, as I've never used one. I ordered a 26mm bulb knot with loft set at 52mm. I shaved with it this morning and it performed wonderfully.

I have a 2 and a 3 in Super compared to 26mm and 30mm ST two band Shavemac, the Simpsons are considerably denser.

here a thread I made recently comparing various knots densities with pics. I did not have the Chubby 3 Super back then, but it looks pretty similar to the Chubby 3 Manchurian.

If you're after a dense knot, go with the D01. I have a couple D01 and a Chubby Super -- density is similar on all three. I have the ST 2B as well. It's a great knot, but it's not the be all end all. The D01 is really nice.

If you're comparing a typical Shavemac's Silvertip 2-Band bulb vs. a Simpson's CH2 Silvertip 2-band knot (which used to always be bulb), I'd say density is about the same.

Current Silvertip Chubby's lofts are quite short, IMO. You can expect a loft of around 47mm on a Chubby 2, and while I like some stiffness in my knots, given the choice of loft I' go for around 50mm.

D01 2-Band hair is a whole other story. Considerably scrubbier then Shavemac's or Simpson's Silvertip hair, IMO.

Shavemac Silvertip 2 band is a superb hair. I dont have D01 but friends dont like it.

This is my Silvertip 2b 23x52 bulb. A real pleasure to face lather.

With shavemac silvertip 2 Band I would go 2:1 on a bulb (e.g. 24/48) and a bit shorter on a fan (e.g. 24/46). At least for me that gives the right amount of backbone while remaining soft tipped. The knots are not as densely packed as a Simpson chubby.

I agree with German.

Also, I think we should be clear if we're referring to D01 2 or 3-band. I was referring to D01 3-band in my posts.

I only bring up the D01 3-band because you asked about density. The Shavemac Silvertip 2-band is nowhere near as dense as the Chubby. The D01 3-band is as dense as the Chubby, or at least very close. That doesn't mean one is "better" than the other -- it all depends on the type of experience/face feel you're after.

Standard 2 band silvertip is not as dense as a chubby. What level of backbone and what type of face feel are you looking to get from the brush?

I would like to get the feel of chubby manchurian or super. The size of the know should be 26-30. Not a lather hog with good flow and somewhat less density than chubby. Will be face lathering 95% of the time.
The feel of heritage hair would be a plus.

Re: Manhchurian I can't help as my 30/52 2 band was not of that level of backbone and I wouldn't suggest going lower due to flow through.

With regards to the super the above or 26/50 will serve you well as 2 band silvertip. I prefer a fan in a larger knot and bulb at 24mm.

+1.  Although I would add that my favorite loft in a bulb is 52mm, i.e.  a 26/52 is shaving heaven imho.

I am not sure you can get anything that will be similar to Simpson Manchurian, their knots is just stuffed.  May be a D01 two band knot with the right loft will be the closest in feel , but I have not seen one so I am just speculating here.

I understand what you mean, the closest I have found is a DO1 2 band fan set at 24/50. It is reminiscent of the TSN M6, minus any glue bump issues.
