I recently was on a business trip to Italy and had the opportunity to purchase some shaving soaps at some local stores in Rome. As I am newcomer to the community, could someone share their thoughts on the soaps I purchased as I haven't  had a chance to use them yet.
Thank you.

Below were soaps highly recommended by my colleagues in our Rome office:

Antica Barbieria  Colla
Saponificio Varenese 70th anniversary
Boellis Panama
Santa Maria Novella
Acqua Di Parma
Cella
Porasso
Razor Rock

Based on your list I could simply say that you are up for a TREAT! At least three of them (ABC, BP, and Cella) have an almond related smell, which some people love and some don't. SV-70, SMN and AdP smell very differently and IMHO are all very pleasant. The performance and aftershave feel of these soaps are exceptionally good almost independently of the water quality and the type of your brushes.

There are quite a few different Razorock soaps and at least 3 or 4 variations of Proraso. They all perform very well, but scent-wise not my favorites. I must say though that Razorock's Santa Maria Del Fiore Sapone Da Barba and P.160 are the two RR soaps that I will always have in my rotation.

Enjoy the soaps!

The first 5 have flawless reputations! Do let us know which you enjoy the most. I've been exploring those since they were recommended to me on the luxury soaps/creams thread, and have since acquired Acqua di Parma and Antica Barbieria Colla. The other 3 out of the first 5 mentioned will also be acquired soon.

I agree with Celestino on this one.  My favorite of the bunch is the Boellis Panama.

Ya done good. From where I sit it seems hard to find a bad Italian shave soap and most are more than excellent. Congrats and enjoy.

Santa Maria Novella is the only soap I use.

Quick question.  What is the scent of Boellis Panama compared to ABCBA?  Have only tried the ABCBA so have no other basis for comparison.

I used the BP on Christmas day and boy what a shave. I cut off pieces from the block into a shaving bowl and used my SOC boar brush, Muhle R41 razor and KAI blade. Here are my thoughts I want to share with you.

1-Easy to load and lather. The lather was creamy and had plenty of volume. Where I live the water comes from aquifers and is hard.
2-The cushion and slickness of the soap was excellent, the blade just glided over my beard lots of protection their. BTW I have a coarse beard and sensitive skin and need to shave everyday for work so this definitely is one soap I will use frequently.
3- I am not one for scents however it had a pleasant almond scent I can live with.
4- The post shave was incredible, my skin felt moisturized and hydrated, I didn't feel a need to apply an after shave balm to moisture my skin which I normally do.

I think you're going to like this product.
Ciao

A lite almond scent without that cherry smell.
