I reach out to you 3 great artisans, since you are my 3 preferred brand from North America.

I'm looking hard for a shaving soap that smells very close to (preferably a clone scent of) YSL Rive Gauche.

I own RazoRock Fine American Blend and two Fougere from B&M as well as CRSW Select Savon no. 1, but none smell like a real clone of the arguably best fantastic barbershop scent ever made, YSL Rive Gauche.

I'm a serious frag head, with more than 400+ unique frags in my den, Rive Gauche is the scent I would enjoy most of all these in a shaving soap.

Can anyone perhaps help me in my quest

Mist the bathroom air with some of your beloved YSL Rive Gauche, while you shave with any soap.
Problem solved. Winky

Best of luck to you. If you wish to read the B&M proprietor's thoughts on Rive Gauche...

Claus, 2/3 of those artisans do not read this forum.

Try sending them an email.

I would definitely jump at a chance to buy a quality soap that smells like Rive Gauche.

I'm almost positive Lebelle Soaps-Barbershop is a Rive Gauche clone.  I had a sample of it and gave it away as I still had CAD left from last year.  I love Rive Gauche and that's what my parents bought me last Christmas so I'm definitely familiar with the scent. Also, Lebelle is a very good shaving soap.

Be careful, Will has been banned and can't defend himself.

In his defense the man is a genius when it comes to fragrances. He spends untold hours researching forgotten masterpieces and only he has access to their formulas which he recreates in glorious success. I for one think he is under appreciated but that's understandable as it takes a developed nose to understand his art. There are many that don't care to subject themselves to the cruder artisan offerings that are an offense to the refined sensibilities, myself included.

If you consider someone who is knowledgeable of the craft and isn't afraid to say he doesn't like something in a very subjective field as full of himself, then sure.

He also acknowledged that MANY people love the scent and clearly stated that it wasn't for him. He was expressing his own opinion which we are all entitled to. He was not telling anyone that they must think the same as he on the subject.

Agreed on all counts. While it may be possible to hunt down the ingredients list of de Laire's Mousse de Saxe or Mousse de Chypre, it takes a ton of trial and error to recreate the bases even if you know what they're made from. Add in the fact that most people don't even know what they're made out of, and what Will has done with Lavanille and LGC is that much more impressive.

The thread is not about Will as a person but whether or not he would create the Rive Gauche homage Claus is looking for. Being that he doesn't like it I am gonna say, with 95% confidence, that he would not make it. Moving forward...

You can try Chris but he normally has a few tricks up his sleeve at all times that would take priority to a homage. I'm doubtful he would make it but it can't hurt to ask. Worse case scenario you end up in a fragrance conversation which is not usually a bad thing.
