The creator of Method Shaving & the Hydrolast products passed away recently & apparently suddenly according to mantic59 & this obituary posting...

Charles Roberts Obituary

While I know he was the brunt of many jokes, you could never deny his passion for our shared hobby. My prayers go out to his family & friends.

How sad. :-( I fondly remember watching his videos. Yeah, he was a nut-job, but I don't use that disparagingly, because I'm one, too.

Requiescat In Pace, brother...

A dedicated man indeed, and even if some of us disagree with his method shaving no one can deny his dedication to wetshaving.

I'm reminded of a verse from the old norse Hávamál, which goes like this:
    Deyr fé,
    deyja frændr,
    deyr sjálfr et sama;
    ek veit einn,
    at aldri deyr:
    dómr um dauðan hvern

Or in English translation (for those less fluent in Old Norse):
    Cattle die,
    kinsmen die
    you yourself die;
    I know one thing
    which never dies:
    the judgement of a dead man's life

Rest in peace Charles - as long as your fellow shavers remembers you and your products you're never truly gone from the fellowship of wetshavers.

This is very sad to hear.  I spent time with him on my last visit to Austin and was looking forward to visiting with him again this summer.  Charles may have sounded strange to some, but he was a very smart man.  I will miss our brief phone conversations and emails.

My thoughts and prayers to his family

RIP Charles.

I did not use method shaving, but enjoyed, and learned from, his videos.  His approach, although unconventional, was a valuable contribution to the wet shaving community.

He will be missed.

RIP

He had a weird way of doing traditional shaving in an untraditional way.

I am sorry to hear it.  Though I didn't buy into method shaving he is the man who first made me aware of beard mapping and for that I am grateful to him. Rest in peace my friend!

Just watched some of his videos due to this thread -- what you clearly take away is his passion for our hobby and a heart to educate others!  The speed with which he shaved was something to behold!!!

I am saddened to learn of his passing. I stopped by his shop many times over the last several years and although quirky, he was a very entertaining and passionate character. God bless his soul and his family.
