Yesterday, I received my order of lime shaving soap from Mike's Natural Soaps. I opened my mail box and was immediately hit with a strong scent of peppermint. After opening the package, I realized this was from an included sample of his peppermint/rosemary blend, which should be enjoyable on these boiling summer days.

I opened the package of lime and had a whiff, and was very much delighted at the aroma. My only previous lime experience is Colonel Conk's lime soap, which smells more like dish soap than anything else. This scent is a nice, dry, pure lime, not too sweet, and not overpowering. This soap is also somewhat soft and malleable, for which I was thankful, as I didn't have any container other than a round porcelain ramekin, into which I pressed the soap with some effort.

This morning, I was anxious to give this stuff a whirl. Having tried, and loved, a sample of the veggie formula he's working on, I had high hopes for the original tallow, and I was not disappointed. I loaded my brush (today, a Vulfix "Grosvenor" bristle and badger) for less than a minute, dipped the tips into some warm water, and began face lathering. I gave the brush one more dip into the water before the lather exploded. I had enough lather for my usual three passes, even though the knot in this brush usually takes some elbow grease to properly load for more than one. This stuff yields a thick, creamy lather possessing excellent slickness and plenty of cushion.

I had an excellent shave with no irritation, my face was left soft, smooth, and moisturized, and the fresh citrus scent left me invigorated and ready to start my day with gusto. It was an absolute pleasure to do business with Mike. I'm a big fan of small businesses, and he provides those small, personal touches that have an impact on a guy like me. I will definitely be ordering from him in the future.

I'm a big fan of Mike's soaps, glad they work for you. Lime is my favorite but the Bay Rum is giving it a run for its money!

The sample I have is, I think, the orange/cedar wood/black pepper, which is just fantastic. I'll have to try the bay rum, definitely!

Nice review Seth. As my RAD is slowing down, I find myself wanting to try more soaps and brushes.

The Lime is definitely my favorite of Mike's offerings so far. It has the most realistic lime scent I've tried thus far.

I, too, am a big fan of Mike's tallow and lanolin shave soaps and love the Orange, Cedarwood, & Black Pepper. As far as I'm concerned, his soap runs rings around the more famous lanolin soap, MWF, in just about every way.

Great review Seth. I have been using Mike's lime almost everyday for the past couple of months. There is hardly any other brand that can equal it. The lime is great and so are the peppermint/rosemary and orange, cedarwood & black pepper.

I love MNSoaps! My shaves are always super comfortable with MNS. My favorite is SS MWF and this is like MWF with scents.

Seth, have you tried the peppermint & rosemary? I'd be keen to know your thoughts as I'm planning to order some soaps from Mike.

Ben, I had a sample of the peppermint/rosemary and it was amazing. I currently have the O/C/P in a tin and when I'm ready for another soap from Mike the peppermint/rosemary will be a top contender.

I've tried the rosemary/peppermint sample this morning. The bar smells strongly of peppermint, but when lathered, the rosemary really comes out. Performance-wise, it is right on par with his other soaps I've tried, lathering like a champ, even from the small sample square, providing excellent glide and cushion, and leaving my skin feeling smooth and hydrated. There is a nice cooling sensation, slightly less than that of Proraso green, that really hits on the post-shave cold water rinse. This was a nice rescue from yesterday's shave, where I tried a little ATG and touching up that didn't go so well.

Seth, thanks for the review of the Peppermint & Rosemary. Before reading your post I placed an order for the Hungarian Lavender (just back in stock today!) and the Orange, Cedarwood & Black Pepper.
