Just saw this on Sue's facebook page:

Quote:My apologies.. as of tomorrow. the wbsite wil be xlosed down. I am losing money. I love you all and wish you the very best. xo Sue

Is this true? I'm not very familiar with her soaps (I've only tried one of them and it didn't thrilled me), but it is sad to see another artisan soapmaker go away... Sad

I think it's only the website that will be closed down...

I'd wait it out. there are too many people out there that love and buy her stuff. To me, it seems really random and out of the dark. Can't help but wonder if Sue was just really upset about some finances and it was a knee-jerk reaction. As of right now the website is still up.

Nothing more... Nothing less. She is closing down Facebook site and since that is all we know so far... why speculate?

I haven't really been fond of the MB soaps, but it still will be disappointing if another reputable dealer is closing down.

I have tried her soaps and they were very good. Too bad that she has to close down.

Performance wise Mama Bears soap are really good, unfortunatly the strong fragrences irritated my skin. Too bad because they smell fantastic, and work well.

If you look at the bottom of those posts (as of 11:29 AM PDT) she has changed her mind. She claims she has enough orders to keep going.

I have to admit that I was not a fan of her shave soap but I certainly wish her well.

Glad she will continue. IMO, Her soaps are as good or better than any glycerin-based soaps out there. She formulates her own base, sells in tubs and sticks, and offers an unscented for sensitive skin as well.

We've lost a few good soap makers lately - it'd be a shame to lose another.

Just curious, what other soap makers have we lost? Seems like more artisans pop up everyday...

She did get a bunch of orders in, but a lot of that is a combination of sympathy and "stocking up." Unless that bump in business is sustained, the writing is on the wall. With all the new competition from other artisan soapmakers and the decreased popularity of melt-and-pour soaps, I'm not inclined to think that this will be the case.

If you are a fan of her soaps, I'd stock up now.

IMHO of course.

The Gentlemen's Quarter - some of the best glycerin soaps and interesting scents around.

My Time Bath and Body - dial your own menthol tallow based shaving 'croap'

Saint Charle's Shave - lead soap maker Sue passed away - though now it is run by her daughter.

Nana June's - this one wasn't around as long.

"My Time Bath and Body" has been gone for over a year and a half.

Nana June apparently closed in 2010.

None of those are particularly recent closings.

I would hate to see Sue close. For those who haven't checked her website out you owe it to yourselves to do so. She has the largest scent selection you can find. Her soaps are very easy to lather and their very stable.

Bob, don't count out Ms. Krissy just yet. According to her Facebook page she is anxious to get started again. She seems to be getting stronger so here's hoping. Smile
