I'm a huge fan of Czech & Speake soaps, and their metal dishes. About a month ago I came across a thread on another site of someone finding one of their unicorn items, which was this discontinued blue glass Czech & Speake dish. I consider myself a avid shaving enthusiast, and surprisingly I had never seen this magnificent item before. I was awed at how unique and beautiful the dish was, but I had quickly come to a realization that I would probably never find one for myself. I already had the current dish offerings from Czech & Speake, but I couldn't help but feel the "collection" was incomplete now, lol.

A few weeks pass, I had all but forgotten about the gorgeous dish. That is until I received a message from a fellow shaver. It was maybe 4am, I have no clue why I was still awake. He saw my comment on the other gentleman's thread and wanted to let me know that he has spotted another for sale. Although he would have loved to purchase it for himself, he had to pass. I jumped out of my seat and clicked Buy it Now faster than I have ever before.

Anyway, it has finally arrived and I am excited to share some photos with you. I also decided to purchase the matching aftershave from Bullgoose Shaving.

It looks sick Tom! I thought this as an alternative to metal bowl, until reading it was a unicorn. Good find. Very good find.

That's beautiful, Tom. Great find.
I'm sure I've only ever seen one other example and that belongs to another member, here.

Thanks fellas!

If anyone knows approximately when Czech & Speake offered this dish, I would love to know. I know it's not terribly old. I'm thinking maybe early 2000's, perhaps a little earlier?

I do not think they ever actually offered it...they were considering changing from the Metal bowls to the glass dish about two years ago and had several prototypes made. It is possible that they sold the glass dish in their retail shop but, it was never available to on-line retailers.

This is a beautiful bowl! I saw one on eBay a few months back and was tempted to buy it, but I wasn't quite sure of its authenticity (since I've never seen it for sale anywhere). Now I wish I'd have bought it.

Ah well, I guess that's an excuse to pick up the anodized aluminum bowl. I still haven't bought into the brand yet but will start with Oxford & Cambridge.

Very interesting, I figured it was older and they eventually switched to the metal. The soap wrapper looks and feels much older then what my other dishes came with. However, the soap while still in the wrapper, is incredibly fragrant. Thanks for the info!

Apparently the seller had a few of the bowls, along with a few other rare Czech & Speake items.

I'm a huge fan of Oxford & Cambridge. It's a very luxurious, complex lavender scent.

I have a vague recollection of reading somewhere that the glass dish was made until 2010/11 when the aluminium dishes were introduced.

That is definitely possible...I did not start carrying Czech & Speake until 2012. In 2014 or so, they considered discontinuing the aluminum dishes and planned to replace them with glass dishes. At the time, I was told there was at least an 80% chance that they would make the switch.

Tom, if you had to pick either the aluminum or the glass, which would you prefer?

The glass is hands down the better looking dish in my opinion. However, I am concerned with accidentally dropping or banging it. That being said the aluminum dish is still a great option, and I don't regret purchasing it.

I also like that the glass dish matches the aftershave and EDT bottles.

Tom, is the glass of the bowl and the bottles, the same?
This could suggest that the glass dish was the regular offering as the matching set until the aluminium ones went in to production around 2010/11, as I wrote earlier.

Hmmm durability is an important consideration for me. But if I had the aftershaves or EDT I'd probably prefer the glass (just to match). Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, they're pretty much an exact match.
