Well I hated the bowl that SDM Tempete came in so I decided to have my first go at grating a soap to put into a different container. Didn't do to bad of a job!

I grated my SDM as well but into an empty MW bowl. Works great!

There are several soaps that I like that either come in small pucks or shave sticks, and I usually grate them into larger containers as I like to use large brushes.

It works.  I've never had to do it but would not hesitate to if a soap I liked only came in a bowl I disliked.

I agree which is why I did this. Otherwise I would have sold the soap as I hated the container. Completely worthless unfortunate you can't buy this soap without it for cheaper as for the price of the soap with container I would not buy again as it is to expensive with a container I'm going to throw away.

and then there are the oddly shaped soaps such as Provence Sante that won't really fit well into any container.  A few minutes with the grater in the kitchen and now it lives in a Connaught wooden bowl.

Mystic Water sells tubs, and Stirling sells large tins, as well as tubs. Several vendors also sell various containers. I save soap containers from the soaps I've used, and from those I didn't care for and used as bath soap.

Good idea here. Didn't know many vendors sell good stuff like what I set you have in your pictures.

I hate the texture occurs after grating, but the performance benefits from it. Soap loads easier, I guess.

Soap texture that looks bad and performs well is much better than the other way around...I will have to grate my Savonnerie du bon Berger stick.

Try compressing it after you grate it.  The soaps below all came in containers that I found difficult to load my brushes in.  I grated them and packed them into wooden bowls and after I had mashed them as much as I could with my finger I used a heavy metal measuring cup and warm water and applied a lot of pressure to get the soap close to flat again.  It turned out pretty well if you ask me.

I've grated several of my soaps and I think it makes a difference in the loading and ultimately lather creation. If a particular container isn't working out for you, grate that soap into a container that does.

The middle and the left are Floris bowls and the one on the right is an AoS.
