Got my razors today. I had the seller throw in two razors that are missing parts. The one is a Big Fellow gold that is missing the top cap and stem screw, and the other is a 20's old type missing the ball end on the handle. The Eclipse looks to chrome or nickle plate with a lot of plating loss on the handle. It will probable go for a replated. The Grand Shave King will clean up well, it is in great shape. I wonder if I can find parts for the Big Fellow?

Is the Big Fellow made in USA?

Strange serial number.

Nice Shave King. Looks Grand!! Has the fancier top with engraving. Too bad the original handles are so lightweight. Good thing they are standard threads and you can use any handle you like with it! Be gentle tightening it. The caps can bend.

The Eclipse looks good too. Enjoy it. Try out the magnet in the handle bottom too! Also an engraved cap. Some are smooth. Yours is still intact from the neck up!

Just the Gillette diamond logo on the base plate, Patented 1920 on the end of the handle.

As nice as the razors from DERW's are, I do not think that a collectable like the Eclipse would be enhanced with a cerakote finish.

Just for your info the Eclipse is chrome not nickel (which was quite revolutionary at the time). Apparently there was also a silver version, but I believe it to be earlier and rare...

That almost looks like the early Eclipse with remnants of a silver plated handle. I have one of these and had Chris at RazorPlate freshen it up. Silver handle and nickel head. The way I understand it, the older silver handled model did not have a red painted ring and the knob at the bottom drops out like one of the early single-ring Gillettes.

I do think I will have it replated the way it was originally, with the Chrome head and the Silver plate handle. The one thing that I will add that was not original is to paint a red ring.

Great info! Is there any other ways to identify the earlier silver plate version?
