A howling success...

I recently took delivery of my Wolfman razors and was impressed right from the unboxing.
I obtained mirror polished OC and SB heads in SS, light brushed WRH7 handle and stand in SS.

Handling the razors was a delight.
The heads are very refined and in no way oversized or bulky.
I know these heads will nimbly navigate even the most challenging areas such as under my nose without even trying them.
The weight is there, providing a sense of quality and balance.
The finish is fantastic, absolutely flawless in fact.
So many heads are machined marked during manufacturing and left as is - simply not finished.
IMO these ("unfinished") heads just look damn sloppy when you take them apart.
It makes me feel like the manufacturer is lazy or perhaps not interested.
James is the complete opposite, a perfectionist no doubt.

The teeth on the OC are delicate and smooth.
Many OC heads provide an experience akin to claws being dragged across the skin.
The Wolfman provides a gentle caresses of the face, coaxing hairs into an improved cutting position.
The SB is equally well finished, but the OC is the stand out for me.
Efficiency is on par and so to is comfort (if you are generally accustomed to the sensation provided by OC).
I chose the standard blade gap and am in no way dissatisfied with that choice.

I love the WRH7 handle, again it has delicate feel.
I was immediately taken with the handle design, but conflicted in regards to finish.
I was steadfast in choosing mirror finish heads, but felt there was too much unknurled metal for a mirror finish handle.
James agreed that satin was a more popular choice and that mirror could feel more slippery.
At his suggestion, James provided a light brushed finish (somewhere between his 2 offerings).
I was very satisfied with this compromise and believe that heads and handle pair well.
However, I'll likely pair these mirror finished heads permanently with a UFO Goliath and Tornado (and pester James for another OC head with matching light brushed finish).

Thank-you James!

Richard, I gave them both a cursory try, not a real proper shave however.
As suspected, I really like the OC.
These are not aggressive razors. They are however very comfortable.
Efficiency is spot on and I enjoy the blade rigidity more commonly associated with thicker SE blades.
I don't envisage a departure from my King Cobra (and the enlighten era of SE), but definitely a renaissance in DE shaving for me...

Congrats!

I hope that James contact me in February.

I have a question for Wolfman users.

I'm thinking about buy SB with a reduced gap in one or two step.

I have sensitive skin and a very sensitive lower neck.

I don't know if standard gap will be too high for me.
I shave normally in alternate days but sometimes every day.

I would advise against getting the reduced gap. I have very sensitive skin and I don't have any issues with the standard gap. You can send it back for adjustments if it's too much, but I doubt you will need to.

Great write up and photos Ben! I just tried my OC for the first time and your observations and description mirror my experience. It is quite simply the most comfortable open comb razor that I have ever used.

I know you only have dingos 'down under' but the few occasions when life goes especially well or even bad ( watching the Blood Moon and this insult of a neighbor walking past me to stand with the local potheads) a primal celebratory howl in in order. Go outside and give one.

Ben,

As always, beautiful photography, and succinct review. James truly is accommodating and I like the finish derived by you two. Perhaps James should consider "lightly brushed" as a permanent third offering in finishes?

Jim
