I have just received Boellis Panama and used it for the first time the last three mornings.  Having used Cella for years, the Boellis has been a bit of a revelation to me.

Yes, the Cella is much cheaper and you know what you're going to get every time in terms of the ease of making lather.  The scent though has always been a bit border-line for me.  I wouldn't say I love it, but it isn't offensive to me either.

Aside from the price difference, the following are my impressions of the Boelllis in comparison with the Cella:

1. I can smell almonds.  I never smelt almonds with Cella.  And I like the more subtle Boellis scent ... in the container, once lathered and afterwards.  I keep getting wafts of it throughout the day and it is really pleasant.

2. Both soaps are easy to make a lather, but the lather from the Boellis was superior in every sense.  A rich, creamy lather, and very slick for the straight resulting in a comfortable close shave.  Cella lather was always just a little dry for my tastes and I could never get that sorted out.

3. Post shave is extraordinary.  My skins feels very soft and smooth.  Whereas with Cella I'd often have a couple of weepers to deal with and I always felt really dry afterwards.

You expect a jump in quality when you see such a price differential, but now that I have the Boellis I can't see myself reaching for the Cella tub ever again.

I don't meant o sound like a gushing fanboy, but has anyone else had this sort of a reaction after using the Boellis?

And no offense was intended to the many Cella fans out there BTW.

I love BP.  Top  3 for me.  As far as the Cella that comes in the tub, they are like a quarter pounder with cheese and a nice sirloin.  They are both meat and will do what they are supposed to do, bUT they do it in different ways.  Now maybe there is a bit of exaggeration but not mcuh and the difference is apparent.
However, I do have Cella brick coming and loom forward to trying that aND seeing what if any differences there are in brick vs bowl vs BP.

Also I should mention of course that selling 125 grams of BP allowed me to buy a full kilo of Cella delivered.

Without knowing whether I'd like the Boellis or not, I sought to minimise the financial damage and purchased the 250g bar (not the white and blue bowl) and pressed it into an Ikea tin.

I got mine from what I assume is an Italian website, finaest.com.  Very good to deal with and a great price.  The package was post marked from Naples and I got free shipping.

I'll be very interested to see what you think.  My only experience with Cella is from the tub, and I have heard the brick is a slightly different beast.

Boellis is a terrific soap. You don't need to compare it to any other soap to enjoy using it. If you like it's scent and performance, use and enjoy it.

Yeah - perhaps it isn't fair to compare the two.  I guess the point I was trying to make was that since trying the Boellis I can't see myself wanting to use Cella again.

That realisation came as a bit of a shock to me.  If someone had asked me if there was a soap I'd always keep around, Cella would have been up there.

In my opinion it's certainly fair to compare whatever you want.  Is that not the principles underlying this and the other sights devoted to wet shaving.  Sampling comparing discussing trading evaluating rinse wash and repeat.

Boellis dominates Cella IMO. I just reviewed Boellis on the luxury soaps/creams thread and really enjoyed it!

I abhor anything almond scented so will probably never try Boellis Panama or ADP, I made the mistake of buying Cella but at least it was cheap

I really liked your review Neo.

I considered posting my original comment under your review, but I found I was talking as much about Cella as I was about the Boellis, so I thought it could have its own thread.

Cella once was a staple among my software, it's reliable and effective and inexpensive...

However, Boellis is easily my preference of the two and is worth the extra investment...

I like the scent so much, I invested in the aftershave too.

Do the aftershave and EDT smell like the soap?

I only have the A/S and yes the scent is very similar, just stronger, much stronger.

Thanks.  Some of the write-ups I'd seen talked about the A/S and EDT being citrus scents.

Thank you for your kind compliment.

I understand the comparison. The Italian almond soaps really do seem to have similar DNA. To me Boellis, Antica Barbieria Colla, and (yes) Cella are roughly comparable in overall style. However, the first two stand out as top shelf performers while Cella simply does the job.
