I came a cross an old ad from classic shaving that showed an incredibly dense Rooney Super 3-band. The ad was from 2011, and they were selling NOS brushes. I have witnessed this type of density once, by way of the M&F Rooney Finest stubby medium. But I have never seen a picture of a Rooney 3-band super with this type of density. Do any of the Rooney-files around here own one of these brushes? I would love to see pictures of one of these in action.

I have got three of these beauties, a Stubby size 2, a Stubby size 3 and a Chubby size 2. They are incredibly dense and luxurious and they bloom like nothing you've ever seen before! Also, in my experience no brush is a lather hog if you've got enough product loaded to begin with, it just never becomes an issue.
Here are a few photos, enjoy!

I had one of these from Classic Shaving and ended up selling it because though it felt amazing on the face it just would not lather that well without mashing the brush down which was uncomfortable for my hand.
It looked beautiful, but was not functional for me.

Nathan, do you have any top down shots?
I'll try and grab a couple of shots tonight. They have been in storage and should be nice and tight again so they look like the ones from the Classic Shaving advertisement you referenced.

That would be great, thanks!

The brushes with this hair type are my favorite 3-bands. That's not to say that you can't get better elsewhere. For my preferences these are top notch.
Looking forward to seeing a few more if they're out there.
Thanks Nick! You are right, for me they are the perfect three band brush.

Thanks Nathan. What a great set of density beasts! I have a brush coming with this old 3-band hair soon, so I will finally get a chance to experience it. Don't think it will be of the extra dense variety, but should be interesting none the less.
Would love to see more of these old 3-bands brushes if anyone has one to share.

Thanks Rob! I am confident you will really enjoy your incoming 3-band. Even if it is the super dense variety they are nothing like your old M&F Finest (although I think they are very close in density) the individual hairs are so much softer and finer that even with the extreme density they are very wonderful brushes to use. I hope you enjoy it!

I owned two of these from Classic Shaving, the extra dense ones. I sold them because they had a super huge bloom, making the bloom on my Simpson Chubby 2 Super 3-band look like a regular bloom. Honestly neither of them felt great to me. For the price I paid, they paled in comparison to other brushes in my den. For instance the even denser M&F Finest were far better and bloomed less. A brush can definitely bloom TOO MUCH for my taste as a face latherer. The Rooneys did just that.

The brush on the right is one of Sabini's prototype Urns with an extra dense knot. It is quite unique in feel, but I think I prefer the regular block-letter Rooney as I am not a big fan of uber-dense knots like this and modern Chubbys.
Very nice brushes Dave I particularly like the smaller style 3, is it a 3/1?

You're right Claus, I have never seen more bloom than older Rooney 3-bands, far more bloom than any other 3-band I have ever used. I actually absolutely love these brushes, I have never used a better 3-band brush (Although Somerset Simpson 3-Band Super Badger is pretty amazing too.) their softness is without compare and I do not find the bloom off putting in the slightest.
