Probably because they last 20+ shaves, and there isn't exactly a booming market for safety blades to begin with. I get 6 or 7 out of a current Personna and it costs $0.20 at most (If I buy from 99c Only stores). Would you pay a buck a blade for a DE? That's what Energizer (they own Personna) would want to charge to compensate for fewer units sold.

I just finished the 20th shave on my blade mentioned previously. I am still getting very close results, but it isn't enjoyable as the blade feels a bit harsh. It was interesting to see how the blade feel changed from razor to razor and I'm sure I could have gotten a lot more life out of it if I wanted, but I prefer buttery smooth feel to longevity.

"but I prefer buttery smooth feel to longevity." So do I, that's why I use the 74's. I get the best of all worlds. Smoothest, (except for possibly Wilkies Light Brigades) sharpest, longest lasting.

I am calling it today on shave #27 with the Personna 74 Tungsten Plus blades. I used this blade in three different razors over the 27 days. I have not had any tugging or nicks in any of the shaves. All have been smooth and close. The last two days I did start to notice some dulling and had to do a bit more clean up than normal. These blades certainly do live up to their reputation! I waited a long time to find some at a reasonable price, under $1.00 per blade. At that price level, these cost less per shave than most of my other rotation blades, assuming an average of 4 shaves per blade.
