How come some razors come with exciting discussion and then are never heard from again....3 examples...#1 the Fatip SB Testina Gentile...# 2 the amazing all brass HONE and # 3 the Seygus....almost like only 1 or 2 people bought them and then they were banished from conversation...now it is Blackbird and perhaps the new injector coming in April.....no wonder companies like Tradere go out of business...we are too fussy....buy stuff and then wait for the "NEXT BIG ONE".....human nature I guess or perhaps we are mostly nuts to have so many razors.....just a little rant due to the 90 degree heat here in the valley called los Angeles CA

Interesting explanation.....simply we are all looking for "the Holy grail" and the search is more exciting than actually finding it....some form mental illness no doubt....why else would I have over 200 razors....just doing research I say...for my PHD in Shaving Science.....(sounds so much better than I,m just nuts).....Oh well back on the treadmill I guess!!!!

I recently made a Hail Mary EBAY bid on a minty Hoffritz slant in box and watched it go for 3 figures. Phil is seeking a Darwin and there is a highly regarded british razor ( the people who made the bobby pin; the name escapes me ) - all the subject of fierce competition that makes the still cornucopial supply but ever appreciating Gillettes seem common.
I was just gifted a Seygus. It's- well different and I am trying to bond with it. I appreciate the initiative of obvious craftsmen in a country beset with economic difficulties. I hope they make a go of it. I really do not want to have a razor people will make Hail Mary bids on 50 years from now.
I do look at the cash outlay of these new brands and pause. I am sure the prices are well worth the effort and lower unit production. I think that's why Merkur and Edwin Jagger still appeal to buyers. I think my inner magpie felt bad about that Hoffritz maybe 3 seconds. I can buy a new Merkur Slant from Phil. Then I will have 4 razors for one face.

It is only within the last few months that I have finally freed myself of my Acquisition Disorders and it feels very nice. There are times I contemplate buying something, but it goes away once I leave the website in question. The fad element in wetshaving is so intense that it just sucks you in - I have 24 razors in rotation with 30 brushes and an equal number of soaps. The setup got that way b/c I bit on fad after fad.
When one considers the heat generated by a new product it is dumbfounding to find it is now quieted down. But sometimes it pays off to bite b/c when something spectacular does appear it is quite discouraging to find it is no longer attainable - e.g. original P.160, Rooney 2-band Stubby and Simpsons array of great 2-band brushes. But these are few and far between, so although I will very likely miss some great products, I am enjoying my low-key contentment with what I have.
