Swmbo, "Don't get me anything for Valentine's Day this year - it's all such a ripoff..."

Me, "Nothing?"

Swmbo, "Nothing."

My take? It's a trap!

She wants something, but something thoughtful and surprising. Skip the boxed chocolate and roses, go for a home-made candlelit dinner (unless she has a favourite restaurant you can get a table at) or something in a similar vein.

It might be as she says, maybe she loves you just like you are without presents  Wink

It means just the opposite. While she might not like the commercialism of Valentine's Day, a little romance goes a long way. Do something special, from the heart, to tell her you love her.

Do as requested, nothing.  But tomorrow night take her out for a candle lit dinner and tell her you love her everyday, not just Valentine's.

Forget the male stripper dressed as UPS. Your dog will run away or cause a wrongfull injury and loss of income lawsuit.

Even when my wife says stuff like that I still do or will do something in general. She may fein disapproval but is smiling ear to ear the whole time.

If you have any art talent at all, fold a piece of cardboard in half to make a card, draw something simple but romantic on the front (moon, stars, hearts, flowers, mountains, etc.), and write inside a brief note about how much she means to you.

That was my initial thought. Like most men (i think), I'm usually wrong. Gut instinct, thought/active processing, it doesn't matter, I'm usually wrong..

She said she didn't want flowers. So I bought her one red rose - a flower. And a bunch of scratch-off lottery tickets.

Exactly. I swept the floor. All of it. The hall, living room, dining room, foyer, kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms. Then I gave her a no strings attached foot rub, and later a back rub. Strings were attached.

We went to a favorite sushi joint, and we each ordered something we'd never had before. Gotta keep the romance alive!

That's exactly what I did. She really liked it!
