Hi guys,

I recently purchased a Chubby 2 Best Badger, that arrived yesterday which I can't wait to use.   Thumbup

My previous brushes to date have been a Saville Row 3824 and Shavemac D177.  Before I use the the Chubby 2, I wanted to ask some questions;
  • Does the Marco method work with the Chubby 2? I understand from the research I've done that they hold an enormous amount of water.  If I continue with the Marco method, will it be difficult to get a good lather because of the extra water the brush holds?
  • Also, I've read many conflicting reports about how many hairs a Chubby 2 will shed.  What's normal?
Any other advice on the Chubby 2 would be greatly appreciated too.

I don't know what the Marco method is but mine shed about 20 hairs in the first two shaves then stopped completely

Don't put too much pressure. When loading, gently let the tips pick up the soap and when you feel the resistance building up - add a couple of drops of water and continue loading. I do a 3 pass shave and in my opinion, this brush does not use significantly more product. Enjoy the brush, you are in for a treat !

My Ch2 Best and Super shedded 30-40 hairs each during the first 3 hand lathered, then stopped.

Forget Marcos.

My advice: LOAD THE LIVING LIFE OUT OF THE BRUSH !

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll keep an eye out to see if it sheds, but I can't wait to try the Chubby tomorrow.

I also found a video of the 'Marco' method lathering technique for those that may not know too much about it

I think the main benefit of Marcos method would be that you'd use up your soaps faster so you can go get MORE! =P

seriously, however, Marcos is nice because it helps you load more soap. The extra water really helps you see that there's not enough soap on your load and helps with the judgement on how much more you need. I use it when I'm using a new soap that I'm  not  familiar with and am having trouble with... It helped a lot when I was first figuring out Mystic waters.

..... It does get messy as hell....

Well, I have to say, I enjoyed the heck out of my shave this morning with the Chubby 2.

I followed everyone's advice and started with a damp brush adding drops of water and loaded the heck out of it. WOW!! Having had a couple of Silvertips, the best badger was just as soft, but a lot more backbone. I had so much lather and was enjoying the experience that I did an extra couple of passes.  I was using the Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary soap, another first, and boy is that stuff slick. I can now see why everyone raves about the Chubby 2, I'm very happy with my purchase and it will most definitely be a keeper.

I didn't notice any shedding this morning which I was also really pleased about.

Thanks once again guys for all your advice.  I think I'll go the Marcos method for the soaps I don't really like and can't sell on the BST Wink

What are the differences between the Ch2 in Best and Super?  Thanks in advance CHSeifert.

Difference is minute in some cases, big in other cases. Depending on the batch.

Super is in most cases softer, has a more densely packed knot with slightly thinner hair quality.

I actually prefer my CH2 Best (2013 batch) over my CH2 Super (2015 batch)

My Best is softer than my Super at the tips, not as densely packed and with a lower loft.

For me - over the past 2 years I have owned 5-6 Chubby2 Best, 2 Chubby 2 super, and couple of manchurians.
Some of the best was identical to super.
Honestly it very difficult to recommend one over other as sometimes there is no difference and other times the super is much softer than best.
Whatever you decide, the resale value is very good so you will not have any problems selling either.

If you can, save up and get the manchurian. The current batch - is simply amazing !!
