If it really is an issue of sensitive skin, I would recommend bowl-lathering instead of face-lathering and then just painting the lather on.

Emperor 2 or 3 in Super would probably a good candidate. Not an uber dense knot but also is not super big so I wouldn't say it is a face latherer.

Actually a really good choice considering the parameters.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, everyone!
I was expecting Super, but had forgotten about synthetic.
Here's a dumb question, is their Super 2-band or 3-band?

+1. I have sensitive skin and I can't face lather. My skin gets irritated before the razor ever touches my face.

I agree with this.  I own or have owned every grade of Simpson hair and the softness of the Chubby 2 synthetic would be ideal for sensitive skin.  That softness comes with nice backbone for face lathering and that "wall of badger" feel unique to the Chubby 2.

Super Badger, speaking from current stock is only 3 band type badger the Simpson 2 band is currently under the 'SiLVERTiP' naming.

Thanks for that.
How do these two compare?

I would suggest either the new silvertip or the older Summerset ( pre Vulfix ) two band in Super. Either one should be super soft with medium backbone to medium plus if you go with the Chubby series.
Good luck.

I say the softest face lathering Simpson brush that I've ever used was a Somerset PJ3. Banes_pubes has one for sale right now...like lathering with a cloud!

I've not experienced the current 3 band Super Badger but I have tried a Somerset 3 band Super Badger (Emperor 3), my experience was that it had some facial sensation, not completely velvety soft like the Simpson 2 band Super/Silvertip, the feel isn't anything bad but maybe my experience was a batch variation. My preference would be either Simpson 2 band Super or SiLVERTiP for a soft brush, given that its bit 'easier' to get the current SiLVERTiP by contacting Mark than to sit around and wait for a 2 band Super to show up (there's always WTB).

Haven't tried the CH2 Synth yet, but to the touch the synthetic was soft but in use the one I used wasn't my cup of tea... maybe a CH2 would be better implementation of a synthetic fiber brush

Here is my Chubby 1 in Super Badger with Mike's All Natural Soap (Barbershop). I used it last night. Soft hair, which did not shed for me. I don't get irritated and it was very nice on my face. I have attached some photos of the lather...

Simpson Chubby 2 2-Band Silvertip, especially pre 2014 batch.
Simpson Chubby 2 3-Band Best, especially pre 2013 batch.
Simpson Chubby 2 3-Band Super

All these have soft tips and do not feel harsh on the face at all.
At least not mine Smile

Thanks for the pics, I like the shape of the knot a lot. More fan than bulb.

How do you like the current 2-band Silvertip?
Compared to Thater 2-band in fan.

I prefer my Thäter 28 mm bulb 2-band slightly over the Ch2 2-band, but prefer my Ch2 2-band over my Thäter 26 mm 2-band.

If you want soft face feel and badger, go the Thäter route.
If you want slightly more backbone, go for Simpson 2-band....
