Maybe Brian can step in here to answer your question. I haven't used them both, so I can't compare them.

Regardless of white or black, it's going to be slow - that much I do know.

I'm no stone/hone expert but I have played with more then I would like to count.
In my opinion there is very little difference between to the two. Some say there is no difference at all. From what I know Arkies are rated by specific gravity weight. The translucent, translucent black and surgical black are all rated the same.
In my opinion it's going to come down to the individual stone (more then the color) with deciding which would work best for you.
As long as you are getting the stone from a quality place, I don't think it matter that much.

Yep.

However, if you're looking for finishing hones and you're just starting out with honing, I'd suggest lapping film over anything else.

Unless you're really focused on getting a natural hone, the lapping film will deliver the best, most consistent results.

I've never considered lapping film and I have not been even reading about that

You should look it up. There are several threads over on SRP and B&B about it. It is fast, cheap and the results are very consistent.
