Gentlemen,
Here is the 2016 shave den. I have trimmed it into a more modest and practical state. The daily products are in an open closet next to the sink:

Thank you, Red. At one time, that entire counter was packed with rows and rows of straight razor. Eventually, though, I felt that was too much. I sold many of the razors, although I wish I had kept some of them. On the other hand, one has to draw a line somewhere. This suits me well, and I love all the razors and brushes. All the Simpson and Rooney brushes are gone. What remains is what I really love: Thater, Savile Row and shavemac, plus one Plisson synthetic, which I also use for travel.

Thank you, Ed. I have always spent my money on quality stuff. The only thing missing right now, in addition to a 6/8 Schulze and a 6/8 Revisor I have ordered, is the 28mm Wieborg I ordered almost a year ago. I figure I'll probably receive it in 2017.

Viking,
Thank you for the kind words. No, the stands were made for me. Each holds 12 straight or safety razors. My wife plans to stain stands this summer, probably in mahogany.

Through the years, I have spent a fortune searching for the ideal brush — ideal for me. I have a tough beard and ultra-sensitive skin. Scratchy brushes, and even those minimally scratchy, irritate my skin. I have owned a variety of Simpsons, Rooney, Vulfix and others brands of brushes, and all are gone. I have trimmed my modestly large collection to what you see below, brushes I truly love. They are, from left to right:

Thater 28mm finest silvertip 2-band
Wiborg 28mm white badger
Simpson Chubby 2 super
Thater 25mm finest silvertip 2-band
shavemac No. 167 in the 25mm silvertip
Savile Row 3126, a 26mm silvertip knot in the short loft of about 54mm
Plisson synthetic

If I were to name one brush among the group that is my sweetest, my perfect brush, it is the shavemac No 167 in the 25mm silvertip knot. I love this brush more than all my others.

So there you have it: my modest collection of brushes I truly love.

Everyone, thank you for the kind words. My humble shave den is my island of peace and tranquility.

Beatiful collection, Obie! The Wiborg White is truly a special brush.

Very nice, a collection not built overnight but rather through careful investigation and experience that any of us that have been around for the last decade or so have experienced along with you. Now I must have that remaining Thater please.

Gentlemen,

You are very kind. Thank you.

Yes, it has taken years, and a fortune, to select my ideal brushes. I love each for what it is: strong backbone in some and medium in others, relatively short lofts, silky soft tips, and comfortable handles. The Simpson Chubby 2 super has the least soft tips of the group, but soft enough to suit me. I can't handle the Simpson "best' grade brushes — they're scratchy. The Manchurians were beautiful brushes, dense with strong backbone, but they were scratchy, like lathering with an armadillo.

What's interesting, none has lost significant hair: Wiborg, none; 28mm Thater, none; 25mm Thater, none; Savile Row, maybe two or three, I think; shavemac, none; Chubby, one; and Plisson, maybe one. That's a pot of gold.

Anyway, I doubt that lineup will change for a while.

The Thater brushes are incredible. I have tried just about the entire lineup and loved each one. I had too many brushes — too much of a good thing. The 25mm two-band is heavenly.
