Today's arrival. This artisanal soap with coffee scent is made in Finland, in small batches.

In the past, I had another shaving soap with coffee scent, but I sold it. This one is far better. The scent is intense and amazing. The package was smelling coffee when I opened it. I was looking for a long time a nice soap with coffee scent and probably I hit a jackpot.

You can see the ingredients in one of the following photos, they're very good, no parabens etc. It's not a very soft soap, somehow it resembles the Arko in texture. Also, it's not like Le Pere Lucien, for example, which is a lot softer. The presentation is excellent, just the basic things, the soap is wrapped in a nice paper with two stickers. I bought it from Gifts&Care.

Interesting set of ingredients. And from the sound of it, scent (fitting for the start of the day!).
Let us know how you make out.

It will be the soap I'll use in the first April shave, because I decided to use exclusively the T&H 10 till the end of this month.

But, I have to say that I didn't expect to like that much the scent!

I have the Pekka, very nice soap.  Nice aquatic scent, easy to get an excellent lather from.  Enjoy!

I'm surprised it's soft considering it's only potassium hydroxide based. I would image they let the soap harden for a long long time before packaging. The ingredients remind me of MDC with some added lanolin. Should be very very nice!

I'm tempted to order one just because of your comments on the coffee scent

It's not very soft. It's a lot harder than PAA soaps, for example.

If you like coffee, then you will love the scent of this soap.

I do not want to sound negative, but what in the ingredients do you find interesting?  Potassium steareate comes from the saponification of vegetable oil; potassium cocoate comes from the saponification of coconut oil, and potassium lanolate is the potassium salt of lanolin acid; the remaining ingredients are water, glycerine, and scent.  To my eye, that is a subset of the set of the most  common ingredients found in handmade soaps.  What am I missing?

Because the soap appears to have been made with only potassium hydroxide and not sodium hydroxide, I should expect its performance to be variable as a function of water hardness, but it should perform well in soft water.

I do not want to sound negative, but what in the ingredients do you find interesting?
Two aspects:
1. The soundness of the ingredients; I'm not really a fan of (what I consider to be) unnecessary ingredients, for example bulking-agents (calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide), clay, a multitude of unsaponifiables (in one product), etcetera. (That said, I'm not averse to some extras, for example, chelators.)
2. I'm more used to seeing lanolin used for moisturization (unsaponified/partially saponified lanolin), as in for example, MWF (vs saponified lanolin derivative/lanolin acid).

Thank you for your thoughtful elucidation.  My understanding is that bentonite clay is used as a “seed” for bubble formation in lather; as there are soaps that do not use it (or a substitute) that nevertheless manage to lather under certain conditions, it may not be indispensable; but if it is effective for the purpose that it is added to soaps, and not harmful, then arguably it is “necessary.”  (For years, I used Col. Conk Amber daily to prepare for shaving, and that soap lathers very poorly (from a lather porn perspective), but yields a slick, protective shaving environment for a sharp blade, so I suggest  that lather itself is unnecessary; in fact, I have found that Aubrey Mens Stock Northwoods brushless shave cream — which produces no lather at all, at all — can (and on my face does) give an excellent, close, irritation-free shave, so, perforce, lather itself is unnecessary.)

Can't really speak to that but I've also seen it advertised as increasing slickness; I've handled wet clay powder, and it's not slipperier than wet soap.

It seems to me, one of the main keys to a good shaving medium, is hydration. For example, one major shortcoming of canned foams is that that they contain very little water. (Of course, one can add water to the expelled foam, but it get a bit tricky with them, ime.)

I used it before a while. The soap is excellent, it performs amazing. The scent is intense, you can smell the coffee scent during the shave. I am very pleased and happy I bought it.
