I'm new to straights and bought a few to sharpen my teeth on.  My plan is to alternate between the Mastro Livi and the Ralf Aust and work up to the Fili.  I thought I'd share the stoke with a few pics!

6/8 Mastro Livi round point in Olivewood
5/8 Ralf Aust round point in Olivewood
8/8 Filarmonica 14 EPBD

Cheers,
Eric

Thanks!  That's not me in the pic, just a cool big wave shot.

I live in SoCal and surfing is my other hobby.  The biggest wave I've surfed was triple overhead - 18', which was scary enough. LoL. The power behind those waves is no joke.  This year has also seen some good swell with El Niño.  Locally we had some 12-15'ers a month ago.

I live two towns South of you EricM. I've been humbled many days in January and February where I was paddling for the horizon to avoid taking bombs on the head. Nice to see another surfer & new straight razor user here. I had my first straight razor shave a month ago. I'm getting better each time, but still have a long way to go. The learning curve is similar to surfing; you have to stick with it for a while before making any progress.

Nice choice with the square point EPBD. No need to work up to it. You just might find the size and weight to suit you just fine. The hollowness of the Fili's is what really sets them apart in my opinion.
Be mindful of the tip and enjoy that that thing, congratulations!
