I was talking recently to a good friend of mine, who knows my love for the Granada TV show "Sherlock Holmes" from the 80's (Jeremy Brett, performing Sherlock Holmes, the best Sherlock Holmes ever, hands down) and he asked me : "Do you know if Conan Doyle wrote about Sherlock Holmes favorite soap/cream/scent...?.We know that James Bond likes Floris N89,but what about Sherlock Holmes?".Well,I didnt know the answer for that, and my mind started to imagine Sherlock Holmes likes and dislikes : Penhaligons?Maybe too rich for him.Truefitt and Hill Grafton?.Yes,could be a great option.Until the Jermyn Street/Eton College scents came to mind and I thought, thats it,Im sure he would have selected Jermyn Street or Etton College!Biggrin

I wrote about the fantastic shaving soap that Taylor of Old Bond Street released a year ago with this scent :Taylor of Old Bond Street Jermyn Street shaving soap and that unfortunately I lost on a quick trip....However,I know have the chance to try out this shaving cream, which, even when Im not a big fan of shaving creams,I must admit is very good.

The ingredients of this cream are :

so we can see that it contains the new no parabens formulation, with Cacao Oil.This Jermyn Street line is formulated for sensitive skins, and I even have the cologne with no alcohol on it.

The cream has a thick consistency, more than a regular Italian "croap" and its very easy to load the brush with it,as it should be :

The lather is very thick,as all the Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving creams, and very, very slick, something that UK creams are top.

I didnt make a lather shot,so Im borrowing this from my friend Indesio and his review of this cream for foroafeitado.com :

As I said, the lather is slick and with volume, less dense than the shaving soap I would say.

It gives good shaves, and I would put it on the same category than the Avocado one, which I think,is one of the best made in UK shaving creams out there. Is,with Geo F Trumper Coconut and the Truefitt and Hill "no complex shaving cream scents"(lavender, almond, rose, lime and sandalwood) the best, for me, skin care wise.

And if we add that it contains one of my favorite scents, with Arlington, makes it a very nice shaving cream.

According to TOBS,Jermyn Street scent is a blend of :

It contains notes of bergamot, lemon, lime, lavender, geranium, neroli, amber, patchouli, musk and vanilla.

which gives it a masculine touch,on the fresh woody side, but too strong, either too mild.

Its a good shaving cream, but I think I slightly prefer the shaving soap.

Great review Teiste.

I think I'm with you, I prefer the soap over the cream. It just feels that little bit slicker to me.

I totally agree Teiste. I have both the cream and the soap. The soap is my favorite of the two.

But I sure don't get it whipped up like you do.Wink

edit: grammer Smile

The shaving soap is a good one.Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving soaps are much better than people think/expect.Ok,the new lavender refill maybe is not as good (is not, actually) than the old Lavender soap on a shaving bowl, but the Sandalwood, the Sandalwood stick and the Jermyn Street shaving soaps are more than decent performers.

Good review as always. This is probably my favorite cream ever. Great light scent and gives a great irritation free shave.

I am a big fan of the scent of this line. Both the soap and cream are top performers. I usually whip up an uber lather with the sop and cream. Followed by the AS splash.

Never tried the soap, but the cream is one of my favourite English shaving creams Heart

I got this for Father's Day and it is one of my favorites. I especially enjoy the scent and had to order the Jermyn Street lotion to go along with it. I guess I'll have to try the soap version next.

Both share the same scent, but I would say that the cream has a "wet" note, while the soap has it more "dry".Hope this is makes sense.

Great cream. Up there with the Avocado for sure. Just opened a pot and the consistency is just like Teiste's.

This cream is now being offered in the same tins that Simpsons uses for their shaving cream. At least this is how my last shipment arrived.

No...the ingredients have remained the same. I think this is a special edition and they will be going back to the plastic pots but I do not know for sure.
