Hello all
I was thinking of chubby 2 in best for my first major brush upgrade but then decided on shavemac 2 band sliver tip after reading all the good reviews.
But I'm  torn whether to go for 28mm/54 or 26/52.

I only face lather and use soaps. I prefer soft tips and medium backbone (not too floppy but a little splay).
This is going to be my main brush and I shave thrice a week.
My only concern is if 28mm would be too big for face lathering. The biggest I have used is 24mm.

I know its a personal preference but I would be interested to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks

Definitely recommend Silvertip 2-band over the Best grade but I'm not a huge fan of 3-band hair types. As for dimensions I would go 28/52 Fan if you are looking for not too floppy with a little splay.  50mm would make it closer to a Chubby (2-band variety) face feel and give a better scrubbing sensation but the density and hair grades are not on par so it's not really apples to apples.  You're on the right track!  I'm not typically a bulb guy so will cannot offer advice on bulb specs.  I love my Thater 4125/4 that is 30x58 bulb though!

I face lather exclusively.  I have a 26mm 2 band silvertip bulb set to a loft of 50mm and it's a superb brush.

I have I have the 2 band 26 set and 54 and find it to be one of my top 5 brushes. Not really like the chubby in any any way which is also in my top 5

I ordered a taller loft for great flow and boy does this brush not disappoint.

I've got a 26mm x 50mm d01-3 band and it's a great brush for face lathering.

I've got a 26x52 barber handle in 2-band silvertip and it is an amazing brush.  I've probably used it 7 or 8 times and it just keeps getting better as it breaks in.

I use the same grade and size/loft knot but fan shaped. Love it for face lathering.

I own 4 Shavemac's pictured below and I also own a Chubby in Best.  You are making a good choice going to Shavemac.  The brown/black brush second from the left is a 2 band Silvertip; it is 26mm but 60mm loft very soft and flexible.  I had it made for a reason.  The other brushes are D01.  Your thought of a 26/52 seems to be a good choice as it would have a little backbone but great flow through.  All of my brushes (I currently have 9 and an additional 2 on order, only 4 Shavemac's) are fan shaped except for two.  I face lather about 90%-95% of the time and a fan shape works very well whether you face or bowl lather.  Remember the better you rinse you brush after using the longer it will last.  I only question the amount you will use it.  It would be best if you had two brushes so there is adequate drying time between uses.

Here's that 26mm x 50mm d01-3 band - great backbone & scrub. Really broke in well.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
Placed an order for 2 band silvertip 26mm*52 mm in fan shape.Opted for 167 handle in tortoise. Thought 28*54 would be too big for daily use.

Shavemac's are excellent brushes.  The 2-band silvertip is by far my favorite brush although I prefer the bulb shaped knot for control while many seem to prefer the fan shape.

I'm a rather bog advocate for Shaving mac brushes, and have owned 20+ total since 2012, but now have settled for 8, 2 in each of Shavemac top badger hairs, one in fan and one in bulb shape.

I also facelather, and use both soaps and creams and croaps.

If you feel a 24 mm is okay in size, I would probably say you should go for the 26 mm in fan or if you like a bigger size, opt for the 28 mm but make sure it's in bulb shape.

A 26 mm fan shaped knot in same loft can feel larger on your face than a 28 mm bulb same loft.

So a 28 mm in bulb, if you would like to try what a bigger badger brush feels like, would be a great option.
But a 26 mm fan would also be just a great an option.

It's highly subjective, and you really - unfortunately - have to feel a brush on your own face.
We can only do so much here to inform you on how we feel it will behave, when we use it on our own faces.

You may have an entirely different view on this.

If you want a big solid dense brush feel, go for the 28 mm bulb in 54 mm loft.
If you want a softer wider brush feel, go for the 26 mm fan in 52 mm loft.

Congratulations and I hope you enjoy it.  This is some 411 a friend sent me some time ago.

His recommendations for both bulb and fan are: 24/52, 25/54, 26/56. I questioned him on that since it goes against popular sentiment here on short-lofted fans, and he reconfirmed.

I will echo Hector's point about higher lofts for the Shavemac 2-band Silvertip.  Despite the softness of the tips, the hair has decent backbone.  I got a 26x50 bulb as part of Nishy's Xmas LE buy, and it is a great knot but if I were going to do it over, i think I'd go 54-56 for a bulb or 52-54 for a fan.  I think the tips would flex more and release lather better without being too floppy for face lathering.

IMHO you made a great choice.  I think you'll be quite pleased.
Do post your impressions after it arrives and you've used it a few times.

Took me three bulbs to figure out 52mm loft (24-25mm knot) was what worked best for me.

I absolutely love my 3 band for face lathering. May try a 2 band next but my sensitive skin is a sucker for a really soft brush
