I know our current technology is making marvelous advances over the collectables of the past. But we need a return to NAMES like
DARWIN and SUPERSPEED instead of a pseudo military nomenclature like SMLE MK III*1 Ishapore armory substitute standard 1945 Eyepop

Or a permanent updated abbreviation / glossary listing... ?

It seems in this current age of immediate gratification, expediency matters above all else. Hence abbreviation, inaccurate spelling and bastardisation of language...

Seriously though, I dislike all the soap acronyms myself, but understand they are much easier to use than properly spelled names, they just can get a bit confusing.

Amen brother !  All this nonsense with acronyms is just too much.  Or maybe I'm just not in the cool crowd so I have to parse my way through what someone is trying to say.

Even a bigger issue is the loss of punctuation and capitalization.  Nothing like a good period followed by a capital letter to let you know where one thought ends and the next begins.  My second grade teacher sure knew a thing or two on that front.  But heck with that, why don't we just ignore all punctuation and turn a simple message into a word challenge like the daily Jumble.  I mean why have the creator of the message spend an extra 0.75 seconds putting in punctuation when we can have scores of readers spend many seconds figuring it out.  That sounds efficient !

Interesting, maybe because I don't text much and don't use social media, I don't encountered much of this.  I couldn't do it, it would be completely annoying.

As much as I agree with this, I'm certain I've been guilty of it in the past. I will try to be more mindful going forward.

A friend of mine always refers to people in text by the first letter of a person's name. He'll say something like, "K. bought a straight razor the other day." I have to remind him that I have no idea who he's referencing.

Writing smart, or prescribed grammar and language are merely learning by rote memory rules. It's like driving a car. We all learned the rules and limits of each vehicle's  performance and our own. Then one day we com around a korner; too fast and get creamed/cremed.
