Got the old "tube" TV out of the basement this weekend!
Need a new TV - please recommend.
My wife exercises on elliptical 10 feet from screen.
Would like to keep price below $1,000.00 if possible.
I have been out of the TV market for a while...

In general terms; stay away from gadgets and gizmos, to some extent you get what you pay for, higher resolution is better (but not all channels transmit in full HD or 4K) from 3 meters (close enough to ten feet) away the 'ideal' screen size is something between 40" and 60" depending on what expert you ask...

TVs isn't easy. If possible, go to a showroom and take some time looking - make note on sizes and brands (I like Samsung, but that's just me), then shop for it online.

Start with The Wirecutter online first to see if their recommendations meet your needs. When I was looking a year or so ago, Samsung and Vizio were getting high marks for monitors in your price range. If you decide to explore further, Home Theater Review, Widescreen Review, and the AVS Forum will take you deep into High Def.

I'm a fan of Vizio, they have good prices and displays. I wouldn't buy one of their high end TVs though because they are a budget brand in my head.

Samsung or Sony hands down. Vizio is good but if you want a smart TV stay clear of Vizio. Not a true smart TV like Samsung. They are just a TV with apps.

I do not buy a TV like you buy a TV. I check out the deals sites (FatWallet, Slickdeal.net, etc.) and wait for a good deal to come up.  Then I read the comments in the thread and the reviews on a few sites and go buy it.

Unfortunately I believe you just missed the best time of year to buy a TV but there are still deals.

Like this would be something I would look at:

I myself am not partial to Smart TV's.  Most likely this is my problem as I have not researched them enough.  I have Amazon Prime and I purchased one of the Amazon TV boxes when they were on sale and watch a lot of the Prime content.  If you can do this with a Smart TV I could see the use.

I also would like to get Netflix at some point.

Good luck OP.

FYI - SmartTV's are SpyWare!

Pop this in a search engine - SmartTV Spying On You

Besides a Computer with Ad Blockers is so much better!

I have a Samsung and like it. I don't watch TV much anymore, so I'm going to cut the cord and go with a streaming service.
Anyway a few years back my dad had a Vizio that went bad after a few months, he was able to replace it under warranty and traded it in for a LG. The LG looks pretty good but I think Samsung has better picture quality.

55" 4K Samsung $719.99 w/Free Scheduled Delivery right now:

You have to read the reviews and figure out if this is the TV for you.  I do not have one.  I would probably look for without 4K to get it cheaper but that is your choice.
