How do you shave with your Fatboy?

I discovered that if I start out on 1 for my first pass.  Then go to 5 on my 2nd and then 9 on my 3rd I get a great comfortable shave.  I use to start at 9 and use it for all 3 passes but it wasn't as comfortable of a shave.  ie I'd get some tugging.  Does anyone else use this method?

No, leave mine set @9 and a 4 pass shave. The right angle and no weight goes a long way to getting a comfortable shave. Add to that the fact that I do not have sensitive skin either. You use it how it works for you.

I do the opposite with my Slim. I start at a high setting WTG and lower it on subsequent passes, especially ATG.

I typically leave it set at one setting (usually 5) throughout the shave, but bump it up for the first pass if I have more than a days growth.

One day growth: 5
Two day growth: 7-9, depending on my mood.  Biggrin

I stay on setting three most all of the time. Sometimes to setting four but that is getting aggressive for me. I have never gone past setting four. Confused

I change the setting on mine only as the blade gets older. I use vintage blades exclusively now and they all last quite a bit longer than current makes.  I took a Personna 74 to 31 shaves just yesterday with mine. It's still in it and it's on setting #7.

I usually work in the opposite direction if I am adjusting while shaving, however this happens infrequently.  My usual routine is simply to leave it on 5 or 6.  The Fatboy is a wonderful razor, and provides near perfect results.

With my Fatboy I leave it at a setting of three.

That's good enough for me.

I set mine to 11 and leave it there.  Ok, it's only 9, but mine does have blade gaps set two levels higher than normal.

I don't know how anybody gets a shave with it set on anything less than 4.  Maybe mine is underclocked?

I find it best at 8 or so.  If I change it from pass to pass, I dial it down to lower numbers for subsequent passes, but I never go below 4.   At a setting of 1 or 2, it is infinitely milder than a Feather AS-D2, for me.  Might as well try to shave with an empty razor.

Three passes on 3 or 4. I bought my Fatboy to see if I would like a more aggressive razor, but I'm finding that I like a mild razor with a sharp blade (e.g., Feather).

I find a comfortable setting and leave it alone. My Fatboy is set at 3 and my Slim and Black Beauty are set at 4. I don't require an aggressive razor to get a good shave.

Agressive first pass then change to more mild settings for the second and third (ATG) for me.

When I first got into DE shaving, my adjustable levels were all over the place. My technique improved over the years so when my Fatboys came back from a complete overhaul, I quickly settled in at a 5. It's been wonderful.

I am very excited to try my incoming Gillette Fatboys. Having only used a merkur futur adjustable and finding that thing super efficient and agressive on the higher settings. I wonder how the futur and Gillette's number scale would match up. Anyone tried both of them? What settings are comparable?
