I walked down to our local latino market for lunch earlier. I paid for the food and beer and received my change. One paper dollar stood out being counted. It was heavily defaced by some amigo with a major chip on his shoulder against the US. I don't know who he was, or she and maybe someone or something pushed the writer to express his outrage. But not on me. I asked the cashier for a different dollar bill. She gave me a smirk and refused. About then the owner Angelina hurried over, looked at the bill with disgust and gave me a new one. Then she lectured the cashier about treating friends and customers with respect. Oh hell, another day in the melting pot outflanking invisible battle lines drawn by others.
But I thought about the other symbols on my money; masonic emblems and religious assumptions and various dead guys not exactly up to modern PC historical review. And I read somewhere half the stuff contains cocaine residue and the to few we do get in pay are actually only worth maybe 37 cents in real buying power. I felt pretty good in value received as my blood sugars and view of mankind rose with beer and burrito tempered with a yellow pepper.
We really are lucky. With the exception of some brush runs with alopecia or bad blades shaving gear is pretty good stuff. it's truly hard to buy 'junk' which is so prevalent in our consumer societies. If we find something wanting there is a ready market who want it. I think maybe we almost demand perfection bordering on the ridiculous. I think we have a pretty good exchange going on overall.

The junk is out there, you can be sure of that. If you need convincing, buy the #1 seller on Amazon, that horrendous Escali badger. You're part of a very discerning community with the awareness and means to avoid the tourist traps of wet shaving. Likewise I'm sure there are beer forums out there that are filled with like-minded enthusiasts who don't mind dropping big cash on quality product. All about the circles you run in.

Ah, but you are in error. 'The Americas' refers to the entire New World. From Churchill to Tierra del Fuego we are all Americans. I'm a citizen of the United States.
People concerned with worldwide immigration make racist comments about Snowbirds flooding south in winter, revealed by toques on our pristine, oil fouled beaches and incessant playing of Celine Dion CDs and the behavior of Justin Bieber calling for his deportation.
But I prefer building bridges, especially since that famous one honouring our friendship is about to collapse.

I have a fear that the New World isn't going to age well.

One of the lines from a TV show years ago - the character stated "I feel like a dinosaur and the meteor is on the way."  Pretty much sums up how I feel.

Such a pleasure reading your posts Kav. They do, however, take time to assimilate Smile

They also generally defy attempts at deconstruction.

Hah!  I stand corrected.  As to your mentions of Celine Dion and Justin Bieber...I disavow them!!!  Cool

And then there's "when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro," the trust of which sustained my professional career.
