ONLY SOAPS HERE, NOT CREAMS !

My shaving soap Top 20, as of April 2016:

1. Nuavia (own both)
2. Czech & Speak (own both)
3. Tabula Rasa (own 8)
4. Savonniere du Moulin (own 1)
5. Savon des Volcans Bon Berger (own 6)
6. Le Pére Lucien (own 8)
7. Saponificion Varesino (own 6)
8. Barrister & Mann (own 14)
9. Cold River Soap Works Select (own 10, all v1)
10. Valobra Tallow (own 4)
11. AOS Tallow (own 2)
12. Klar Seifen (own 3)
13. Martin de Candre (own 2)
14. Boellis Panama 1942
15. Caties Bubbles (own 8)
16. Meißner Tremonia (own 14)
17. I Coloniali
18. MWF
19. Tabac
20. Lea Classic

Honourable mention goes to Haslinger for making a great affordable tallow soap, that of course performs great, but is let down by the mild scent and to DR Harris (own 6) because they have managed to stay clear of bad reformulations and still make a hard soap, that may not perform TOP TOP level, but still performs fantastic. Should also put the Cella 1 KG brick here, because it's great and priced very fair.

Let me hear your list  Smile
Do you like my list or do you disagree with some of the creams I have on the Top 20 list ?

Nowadays I preferably use shaving soaps from April to September and shaving creams from October until March.
Soaps tend to dry out my skin a bit more and demand a bit harder work on my skin and face to face lather them into a lather I like, compared to shaving creams, that lathers fast and easily in a matter of seconds.

My list in no way assigns  descending order of  favour. I either have these in rotation or am awaiting the opportunity to restock. Each and every one can claim a specific benefit or application not excluding the ephemeral category of ' it gives pleasure'.
I only have ten. The pursuit of others and their financing continues.

I have not, but going to, try Mike's and Shannon's( in the near future I hope). If it wasn't for their high shipping costs to Europe I would have tried them already. I don't like when the shipping costs is twice the cost of the soap.

I tried to limit myself, but if you look at the list, all the soaps are - of course IMHO - top performers.

Not all are expensive, not all are cheap.

It's nice to have variety in ones den  Cool

Current too shaving soaps:

1 Cold River soap works - Olivia. Great slickness and scent.
2 I coloniali - very unique scent and performance to match
3 LA shaving soaps - all of them are very good, scent strength is good too.
4 Soap commander - Gusto gets my vote
5 Saponificio Varescino - Colonia scent is spot on
6 LPL Apricot
7 Wholly Kaw - good performer
8 Razorock Tuscan Oud - great value, scent is really good IMHO.

Only three soaps now Claus:

Haslinger
C&S 88 & OC
Mike's Natural

Top two soaps are the best soaps I've ever used. Factory produced to perfection.

Having tried all of the top artisan soaps extensively the only one that really impressed me was Mike's Natural. Mike makes the best artisan soap out there in my opinion. Perfect soap base and straightforward scents.

Claus, my list is shorter than yours, but we definitely have many in common!  I know you were going to get SMN V3, hopefully that will make your list too.  It's at the very top of mine.  Based on your opinions and others, my next soaps to purchase are SdM, SV and Nuavia.

I'll do tiers like others have done, implied is that within each tier all brands are roughly identical

Tier 1
Barrister & Mann Black Label
Barrister & Mann 'Glissant'
Valobra / AoS tallow / Czech & Speake

Tier 1.5 (lol)
Catie's Bubbles French+
Savonniere du Moulin
Strop Shoppe Limited Edition

Tier 2
Cold River Soap Works
Mike's Natural Soaps
Bufflehead Soap Co
Mystic Water
MLS 2016 formula
Catie's Bubbles
Barrister & Mann White Label
Barrister & Mann Latha
Razorock Santa Maria del Fiore

Tier 3
Dapper Dragon
Crabtree & Evelyn 2016 formula
Chiseled Face
Saponeria Artigiana
Strop Shoppe Special Edition
La Toja
WhollyKaw
Haslinger
Saponificio Varesino

---

That B&M Black Label was really something else. All the goodness of B&M but loaded and lathered much more quickly. If Will had not done the Glissant base, which similarly has much more 'torque' than his old formula, that would have been unfortunate.
