Hello!,

I've decided to say hello, and stop just lurking! I've been pretty active elsewhere on the glorious interwebs (Reddit predominantly, but also becoming more active on B&B), but I'm always trying to expand my horizons and meet more people who are part of this community!

I've been wet shaving for about 2 years now. I'd say I'm past that initial learning curve (I don't get irritation when I shave anymore, I can consistently make a good lather, or at the very least, I can pretty quickly identify when something is wrong) and into the "angsty-teen-years" where I'm always on the look out for new gear ... just because.

For me, it's very much about the experience - rather than the practicality. I set aside some time every day, and I take my time - I don't hurry anything. I think that made the learning experience much smoother for me. I started wet shaving, like so many, because "to hell with expensive cartridge razors." I stuck with it, however, because of the zen, happy mood it puts me in every evening. With an 18 month old and another soon to arrive, I appreciate having something relaxing to do every evening, but that doesn't require a mountain of time. To that end, I've got a reasonable variety of soaps and razors (probably bordering on unreasonable at this point), and I like to cycle through them on a regular basis - I rarely use the same one twice in a row.

I definitely have SAD and while RAD is still an issue, it isn't as crippling to my wallet as it used to be. I did buy myself and ATT 7 piece recently (M1, S1, R2) as a personal reward for making it to 30 years without any major screw-ups. I love it, and it's the performance standard against which I judge my other razors. On top of that, I love the heavy steel handles and use them on my vintage pieces as well (never been taken with the smaller, lighter vintage handles). Closely following the ATT, I have a thing for vintage TTOs. While I collect them all, I'm partial to using the adjustables, and I'm fortunate enough to have a Toggle in my collection, as well as a more than one Fat Boy and Slim. Eventually, I'd like to get a few of these replated, but that's an expense for another day.

I've also started becoming more interested in the world of straights. My current straight, the only one I own (I gave away another) is a lovely Henckels Friodur 472. I'm not particularly proficient with it, but it's been a blast to use, and I'm sure I'll keep getting better. Once I've got it figured out, I'm sure I'll pick up some more to go with it.

Hmmm - that's about it. Yep. Shaving is fun! Who knew?
