Just read the news that Prince was found dead in his estate this morning, he was 57. Truly one of the most talented musicians I've ever heard. Here is one of my favorites where he takes one of my favorite Beatles songs and makes it even better. RIP Prince.

WHOA! And my 80 something retired policeman neighbor, TEE VEE wrastlin fan like my own grandfather is crying because CHYNA was found deceased in Redondo Beach yesterday. None of us are immune, hug those you love, smell the roses, do some random act of kindness and Monty Python silliness in public. Everyone measures their generation by artists of some kind and it hurts.
My older family members couldn't understand my going to a public gathering for John Lennon- except one great grand aunt who still had a signed photo of Rudolph Valentino on the mantle.

Great words to live by Kav.

2016 has so far been unkind to legendary musicians, first Bowie and now Prince. Make it STOP!!

In the classical world we lost conductor Kurt Mazur, tenor John Vickers and most tragically opera singers Maria Radner and Oleg Bryjack in that stupid air crash. My favorite player of Chopin, Ivan Moravec also died in 2015. There are so many talented people in all genres and we do what? Cut funding for the arts while Howie  critiques people kicking themselves in the genitals.

"What's it like being the world's greatest guitarist?" someone once asked Eric Clapton. "I don't know," he replied, "go ask Prince."*

*Snopes.com reports that this quote is fabricated. So much for Internet accuracy.

In 1987 my dad wrote a movie for Prince.  It was right after the movie "Purple Rain" came out and Prince was doing the Purple Rain tour.  Prince was so prolific that he wrote and arranged music to be performed by protege acts like Sheila E and Morris Day and the Time.  Another such act was called The Family, and my dad wrote the script for what was going to be a movie to go along with their debut album.  Dad went to a concert Prince did in Oakland, CA. and spend time with him backstage, and then visited with Prince at his house in Minneapolis.

Because of this, I got tickets to see Prince on that tour, performing at the Forum in LA.  I was on the floor, somewhere in the first 20 rows.  He played for over 3 hours, and to this day it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.  Even in my callow youth I understood how special it was.  David Bowie, and now this.   You know you've reached a certain station in life when your heroes begin to go.  RIP Prince.  SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI

57 is young. That is sad.
Kind of a unique character. Stayed in Minnesota which I always thought was cool. Kav's right about funding the arts. Every country deserves it!

My wife & I had dinner in Manhattan with Tom Chapin last week (Harry Chapin's brother). Harry was our babysitter on summer Eve's on Shelter Island, NY. Tough gig. We jumped off the dock and he drank beer.

The Chapin family still work hard on combating hunger. Another unique issue. Kav's on point indeed.

Prince really rules on this video! Recommended it to a friend this morning after hearing about Prince's death. Tried listening to some Prince jams this afternoon but decided I need to wait.
I'm indebted to my friend Marvin for turning me on to Prince back in the Dirty Mind and Controversy days- we were so excited when 1999 came out.
No one jammed harder or loved to play more. Who else plays(ed)a big concert for 2-3 hours, then heads to a nightclub for more shredding early-morning jams?
May Prince have a fortunate future.

Rip Prince.was too young when he was at his peak but still appreciated some of his song/performance.

Some of music is timeless.

I listened to Prince all day at work today since hearing the news at 10:02, every single song, with moments of tears now and again.

TMZ reported that Prince was treated for a drug overdose 6 days ago and checkout out of the hospital against medical advice. Sad.

Never good when drugs are involved even if they are prescription. But never the less he was a great entertainer.

I was in sports many years ago. Have since had a number of serious pain killers and a few surgeries. I feel for the man, unlike some of the others that use just to get messed up.

They can be addictive. Let's just keep perspective. That is all.
