Today on Facebook and Twitter, Simpson posted a picture of a new handle it will be producing:

https://www.facebook.com/simpsonshavingb...01/?type=3

The posting does not indicate whether this will be a regular production item or a limited edition, and I inquired on Facebook.  However, the handle pictured appears to be tortoise, which suggests this may be a limited edition.

Yup, would not exactly call it groundbreaking.

The top just goes on longer same base as many other designs even the m7. Honestly I'd rather see a completely new design from simpson or a return of one of the many prototype classics from the past. That's just me but I assume many would really like this.

Funny in light of recent Twitter jabs...  In any case a return of the AS3M would be cool!

Not all of us twitter but I am aware Simpsons displayed more business acumen attacking artisan brushmakers  on Facebook recently. This is like the phenomenon of craft and micro breweries being ignored by the purveyors of Coors light until the quarter figures came in.

Actually this looks like an older Simpson design, the 25 and 26 models. You would have to have a view of the top of the handle to see how the knot is set to see if it is a 25, 26 or a very slight modification of those models.

I see aspects of the Chief, Emperor, AS3M and 26 in this handle.

Agree with its resemblance as to where this new handle draws its inspirations from. I always thought that pulling out one of the old rarely seen or unknown designs would have been nice since they have nearly 100 years of history lean on.  But hey, its something brand new from Simpson's, lets see where this goes!

I would say it looks promising! It would help to know the intended knot diameter, loft, and density--and handle diameter and height.

Definitely AS3M like.  Or a Chief with a longer/less rounded top half.  Sure not the most original shape, but such a good all-rounder!

What I would really like to see from Simpson is a two band eagle in a fancy colored handle, the new handle is nice as well.

The Chief (according to Ken) "reflects traditional influences that proximately include the Morris & Forndran L7 and several timeless Simpson models (notably including the venerable M7 and AS3)."

Given the M&F L7 was based on the Simpson M7 I'd tend to credit Simpson for the design. However, the popularity of the Chief cannot be ignored as a possible factor too.

Yup, would not exactly call it groundbreaking.

Like most brushes they are re-interpretations of brushes previously made.

In this case the Simpson 25 and 26 models.
