Is there a thread about the beginnings of the beginning, what day the site launched, who talked to who to get things moving, why the start up and the likes ?

would be curious to know where it all came from if such a thing existed

The start of the Shave Nook dates back to Simply Shaving. I was an administrator on Simply Shaving and many of the mods here were also moderators at Simply Shaving. Late last summer, Teiste approached me about updating the software of simply shaving. Unfortunately we could not convince the owner of the site that a software upgrade was necessary. In February, Teiste and I decided to form the Shave Nook and we formally launched the site in late February of this year. I want to say the official opening was February 25th. We wanted to retain the spirit of Simply Shaving while being more up-to-date in terms of forum software. Teiste brought Andrew on board a couple of days after our launch and he has been our IT guy. I am really proud of the team of moderators and administrators that we assembled...they have done a bang-up job! Cool

What Phil have said.Biggrin
Simply Shaving was a great little forum,a forum of friends basically, due to its membership size and also the "spirit" of the place. Both Phil and me realized how much potential that forum had and we asked the owner to upgrade the software,to make it a even better place to navigate. However, the owner didn't share our goal, and also, I think, he was having some personal problems, and he decided to closed it down, loosing some valuable information. But the "spirit" was there as well as many of the original members,so we founded "The Shave Nook".
We have created a very nice community of people from many different places of the world, a serious and informative place about wet shaving, and we have kept the relaxing environment that we all enjoyed at Simply Shaving, and which makes us different from many other places.
I just would like to thank Phil for starting this with me,to Andrew who jumped in willing to help us, and for keeping this place updated/upgraded and his hard work on the site,to the mods for being examples of true gentlemen dealing with, sometimes, delicate situations, and thanks to all the members for their encouragement and providing good info/laugh/support to others : its been a great experience.
Long life to The Shave Nook.

TSN is an awesome forum!!! To all of you who helped create it, thank you. I have been on a few other forums and can honestly say The Shave Nook is by far the best.
Cheers

for me, as soon as I *stumbled* across TSN, and read some of the posts, it was instant to want to be a member here.

Exactly! the tone of the posts seemed to be not only informative, but relaxed. I didn't feel threatened by reading the more experienced shavers here.

Also, I like the fact that I can let my *12* year old son read posts here without worrying about filth (swearing, porn, sex-talk,etc).

and then, the Vendors seem to have a more relaxed approach to posting here than what I have seen at other forums. I much rather have them be able to share without seeming so *rigid*, and TSN provides them a much easier format to share their products, and side interests (Greg iKON stood out to me here vs not so much at other places I visited)

Please keep up the good work, and thanks again for bringing the History of TSN to light!
Smile

maybe *sticky* the History of the site in Introductions as a way to introduce the Nook to members? thoughts?

I, too, enjoy this site very much. It's my "go-to" place and I check things out at least once a day, sometimes more. Informative, fun and friendly. What more could you ask for?

Simply Shaving was nice, I was a member there too and joined TSN the day it was launched (when SS went offline), but TheShaveNook seems to be much more active, layout and software much better and has much more participation that SS ever did.

as others have said, TSN is a fantasticly run forum, site. the mods and admins do a fantastic job of running it and making everyone feel welcome.

Oops...I misread this question initially. Simply Shaving was started in January of 2009 I believe. Ken closed the site a few months after launching it and then reopened it in January or February of 2011 which is when I became an administrator. I brought Teiste, Freddy, Emmanuel, John and Jerry on as moderators soon thereafter.

Ken closed Simply Shaving for good on February 25th or 26th of this year.
