Tony, is that the 3-band?  I have the same one.  The hair is the nicest 3-band I've tried.  And its the densest brush I've ever tried.  Part of me thinks I should have gone with the 55 loft, but the 50 definitely gives that "wall of badger" feel.   PS I wanted to get that faux horn handle, but they didn't have one when I bought mine!

It is the 3 band.  I was torn between the the 50 and 55 because generally I like a touch higher loft.  I may regret it but I also felt 55 was just too much loft.  We shall see.   I've wwaited for the horn to come back in Biggrin .  Hey did you get your package

The Epsilon makes a lovely wall of hair indeed. 2-band Badger, 3-band Badger, white horsehair, brown horsehair; you name and it is excellent!

Congratulations!

Looks marvelous.

How do you normally defunk a new brush? I've read that Epsilons can be a little stronger than other brushes when new sometimes.

It does have a badgery smell.  Personally I defunk them by using.

Vie-long definitely has funk to them. Just use them, repeatedly shampoo them a few times or use a nice strong scented lather fuel. It'll go away after 5 uses max, or at least all of mine have been gone by that many. I find Tabac a good go to soap when I got a brush with funk I want to get rid of.

Honestly the animal smell does not bother me at all.  But I'm also the guy that will take a Sunday drive through the local farmlands when they spread the manuer fertilizer for the season.

That brush does not like the rotational face lather with pressure , just linear sweeping side to side with the tips. At least I like it to leather that way with that brush

Here she is after her maiden voyage on my face this morning.   So far so good.  She seemed to hog a little lather on the third pass but all in all built very nice lather fairly quickly.  Nice and soft and pillowy which is what I like but no trouble in the backbone department.  I do think a 55 would be floppy with this knot, even for ssomeone like me who likes a little extra loft.  Here's some pictures, about 6 hours post shave.

Of course that last picture is to offer a bit of perspective.  That Semogue is most bloomy brush.  That's a 24x48 knot.

All in all I'm happy.  She will see daily use for the next 2 weeks straight.

Tony, we share similar taste in brushes. The Semogue olivewood and Epsilon 3 band are highly enjoyed brushes in my rotation.

What is the color of the tips? I got a 27/55 and it is very gray with a lot of scritch.

The tips are whiteish yellowish.   Didn't feel scritchy to me. Now I only used it once.

Yours is a 3 band, I just noticed, mine is two band, may be that makes a difference.
I hope mine will get softer with use, it has awesome backbone so hope it improves with time.

Congrats on your acquisition.

As long as you don't try to splay these brushes there isn't any scritch. I noticed the scritch on both silvertip and 2 band 27x50 brushes when trying to splay them. I enjoy a bit of splay, so these brushes aren't for me. They are beautiful, high quality brushes for sure though
