To honor our Nation's heroes this Memorial Day I'd like to present a small token of my appreciation. All you need to do to enter is declare yourself an active duty or retired veteran. International veterans may enter as well. I'd encourage you to let us know your years of service and which branch or branches of the military you served. You will receive a package that includes hardware, software & fragrance and maybe a few other things. No specifics, but the PIF would be worthy of the event. I'll select a winner Tuesday 5/24 around 5 pm EST and ship the next day, to arrive by Memorial Day. Good luck.

I was on the marvelous first overseas visit to Europe before my freshman High School year. I was in France, loving everything and thinking about having to return to a small conservative town with Charlie Manson roaming the surrounding hills and effluent, politically conservative families arranging means for their sons to avoid the draft.
I walked past a recruiting office and remembered Beau Gest with Gary Cooper: with 3 years of French courtesy  Anglican private school I entered and  signed up. The student advisor finally located me and after speaking to a senior officer I was honorably released from further duty.
I still have a flaming bomb insignia as parting award for my enthusiasm and an invitation to return when 18. I still stand at attention and sing La Bodin first light on the Fete National.

United States Army 1999-2015
Multiple trips to Iraq and Afghanistan; multiple years away from home.

For the last 8 of those years, I flew UH-60 Black Hawks, ending as a maintenance test pilot.

Fun job.

-having just blundered into winning a MERGRESS- I am withdrawing my entry. We need to spread the fun and Thom's avatar shows great need for proper shaving kit. We didn't tolerate such standards 'back in the Old Guard'. SEMPER PARATUS

I served in the USAF for 24 years (1977 - 2001), mostly flying AWACS; we were sent all over the world very often.

Fly, Fight, Win!   ...and we did.  It was an honor and a privilege.

Not in, but very nice gesture, Ron.  I hope one of the young guns win.
