Many of us are familiar with Bob Quinn (Elite Razor), who is recognized as one of the finer artisan brush makers.  In the past I've used 2-band knots from WSP and TGN in Bob's handles.  I was thinking about trying an Envy White knot, due to the frequent positive remarks about them.  However, Bob advised me that he is now sourcing his own knots from a Chinese vendor who builds them to spec.  Bob felt these knots were exceptional and among the best he's ever set into a handle.  He sent me this picture of the three types of knots he had just received.

From left to right these knots are 28mm Manchurian White, 26mm High Mountain White, and 24mm Manchurian White.

I wanted a very large brush, so I opted for the 28mm Manchurian White.   Here is the brush right out of the box, set to a loft of 51mm:

Here is the brush after one shave:

Here is the brush in my hand after one shave, so you can see how large it is.  It's a Chubby 3 size brush:

And here is the knot from the top after three shaves, so you can get a sense of the density.  The knot on the left is a Chubby 2 Manchurian, and the knot on the right is Bob's:

The handle reflects Bob's usual superb craftmanship.  It is clearly comparable to handles from any of the high end brush manufacturers.  However, this post is primarily about the knot and not the handle.

I've used the brush for three shaves, which is enough for me to form some preliminary views.  The bulb knot is nicely shaped with no stray hairs.  As you can see from the picture, the knot is dense.  My 28mm knot measures 32mm + at the top of the handle, so this supplier is stuffing these knots well.  There is no glue bump.  The brush has not shed a single hair.

The knot has ample backbone, which is to be expected given the density,  28mm diameter, and 51mm loft.  At 51mm, the brush has just enough splay to work optimally for me. However, for those who like more splay, one could clearly go higher on the loft and still retain the good backbone.  The tips are soft, with no scritch whatsoever.  I own Shavemac 2-bands, and have owned Thater 2-bands, and the tips on this knot are comparably soft.  Despite its density and low loft, the knot exhibits excellent flow and release of lather.

This is indeed a high quality knot, and it's great to have it as an option on Bob's superb handles.  I liked this knot so much that I ordered a brush with the 24mm version.  When I get that brush, I'll post Part 2 of this thread.

Is he selling these knots to the public yet or are you just testing them out? Does he do fan or only bulb? Either way i say i must have one.

My SOTD show a damp bloom. I'll take a pic when it's dry today.
