Hi gents.

Got a feather ss off amazon  the other day and I'm starting off with some pro guard blades.

What's the average number of shaves that you use for them?

To many factors can alter the life of a blade for one simple answer.  That being said, when I used mine I would average @ 8-10 shaves per blade. Once it started pulling I changed it.

8-10 shaves for me also! It depends on the days of growth and the razor, I'd say.

I've never used pro guards but I get 8-10 out of the pros.

I too averaged around 7-10 shaves with one blade.
One quirk I found was that if you flexed them to flick the water off the guard can begin to separate from the blade

Thanks guys. I get a bit of tugging right off the bat, but I'm sure it's poor technique and the 'cage' of the pro guard blade.

I wanted to get a sense of blade life so I know when to toss my blade. I hope to eventually work up to a super blade.

i used the professional blades with my feather for around 2-3 yrs as often as 3-4 times per week due to ease and time restraints.
i never had any tugging on new blades and actually miss the level of sharp i had with the feather, i still have 2 of them but they are just not the same feeling as the straights.

I found i used a blade every week - around 5-6 shaves per blade. Seeing responses above, i probably could have stretched a few more out of it. I do travel half the month for work and if i missed the replacement and traveled for a week without replacing - i had to deal with the tugging and irritation as a result.

Perhaps it is the cage - try the professional and maybe just take it slow.
good luck

I just stropped my feather pro and pro guard blades while in my SS on linen then on my leather strop and the blade is very sharp and shaves very smooth.  I curious to see how many shaves I can get doing this.
