So yesterday I had an hour to kill, and popped into a local sale. And...took the plunge for a GEM OCMM. Washed it up, and cleaned it thoroughly, and it looks darn good. Stopped and got some CVS blades (10 for $4.99), as they were the only ones in stock locally. This silver beauty was quite a shave today, reminiscent of my Plisson OC. And of course I did all this before I read any GEM threads, so I was not expecting an above average aggressiveness. Then I read further and see Ravi's post on the GEM family, and Brian's guidance in the various posts. Thought I was all set with my DE collection, and a kamisori, now we'll be nosing around for "Flying Wings" to "Lather Catchers."
Oh yeah, and blades. Can't forget the blades!

The GEM MicroMatic are great razors - I got a Clug Pruf myself - and a steal at that price. Brian did a wonderful post about the whole family a couple of years back you might want to read if you haven't already

The great thing about the find in the wild is that it put me into the SE orbit. A few years back I got the bug to get a Cobra, and honestly it was too soon in my wet shaving journey. It shaved too close - now I know it was that my technique wasn't up to par. This OCMM is very similar in performance to my Plisson OC, so I decided to look into the Gem closed combs because the Gem blade felt so good. Both the 1912, Shovel Head, and the Damaskeene have been wonderful additions. I do try to break out my Fatboy, Redtips, etc, but keep coming back to the SE's. The Gem blades are great, and I'm very happy I gave these old tools a spin.
