Guys, never had a Thater brush before and I'd like to treat myself to some good stuff. Which one on Bullgoose would you recommend? 2-band? Fan? 26mm? Black?

Any. I have used their low end best to the the bands and two bands. They are wonderful, well made brushes. The fans are great but splay more if you like more backbone go with the two band bulb.

I agree. The 26mm 2-band fan is my favorite brush. Outstanding!

On this note, has anyone used the 22mm fan? 4125/0 for reference.

I've a 4292-4H, size4 with a 3-band silvertip, bulb-shape knot, which measures 25X53.  It's a lovely brush: soft with decent backbone.

A 4125 2-band bulb in a 4292 handle would be just fine with me.

This.

4125/3 and 4125/4 are outstanding.

4125/2 (26mm) is most common. But with such soft tips you owe it to yourself to go large!  Just a luxurious feel with the big Thaters.

I have tried several Thaters, all two-bands. Below are the ones I've decided to keep in order of preference, but they are all really sweet. Any preference for one over another is only very slight. The problem with Thater is that you try one and you want to try them all.

1 - 4125/1 bulb
2 - 4125/2 bulb
3 - 4125/1 fan
4 - 4125/0 fan

4125/3 bulb or fan.

This is my favorite size.

Good luck making a decision!

As one can see by the posts so far, there is variation in terms of recommendations.  This, in my view, is a reflection of individual preferences in terms of knot size or shape.
The common theme it seems, is that these are fabulous brushes regardless of knot size or shape.
People should choose ultimately based on their individual preferences in terms of knot size, based on personal experience.

I agree with this 100%. I think the question shouldn't be "am I right for a Thater brush" but "what Thater is right for me?" Because in my limited experience every Thater brush has been excellent.

One of the other nice and unique features of Thater brushes is that they generally offer the same brushes with either fan or bulb knots.

The 2 bands are getting a lot of love. But if you use creams, the 3 band is also excellent. It has the softest of tips.
