Personna Med Preps are pretty sharp, and smoother than Feathers, at least for me. Cheaper than Kai, but maybe a bit less sharp? I haven't tried Kai blades yet, I need to.
Gillette Silver Blues are the best combination of sharpness and smoothness I've found for my skin/hair type.

I hear ya, I'm not a fan of the wax either, but it's no big deal to me. Still, I ever find something that works as well or better for me, and doesn't have the wax, I'll switch.
Tried the Polsilver for a couple shaves in my ATT S2 and went back to GSBs, the Polsilver just wasn't as comfortable and didn't seem any sharper to me.

"opening a can of worms" requires similar properties as a razor blade. It obviously needs to cut, but not wear out halfway around the lid. You want that lid off but not butcher the worms inside. A quality blade is a BALANCE of sharpness, comfort and reasonable longevity. Everyone has to find the blade that works for them. We can all make suggestions based on collective experience; but YOU have to find the right one.

1) the razor
2) the shaver
