Two questions
1. Is it just me or the scent is too weak? Barely noticeable ...refined but again - barely there to my nose
2. Were there more than one versions of this soap ?
ok the third questions I have tried multiple tallow based soaps lately - including the art of shaving, tabac, B&M, sterling and many high end non-tallow soaps, but this thing is another beast altogether - phenomenal performance. I just don't hear much praises of this soap - what gives? I know the same company makes art of shaving, but this soap is just soooo much better than AOS !

I have to concur with you regarding the scent as I have found the No. 88 and the C&S soaps to be fairly mild and the scents aren't my some of my favourites.
Regarding its performance, it is an excellent soap, but I don't find it any better than a few of the tallow-based artisanal soaps such as Mystic Water, Mike's, B&M, Shannon's, and Cold River.
Of course, YMMV.

I really don't think there is a better soap than Valobra/C&S/old AoS. I've tried and sold hundreds of commercial and artisan products. Haven't tried anything that works consistently as well as these soaps do in all respects.
(New AoS are now made by AoS/P&G, and nowhere near as good as the old ones made by Valobra).

Probably the single finest shaving soap in existence. Perfect scent, triple milled to last, made to perfection by Valobra.
Artisans are in vogue and probably always will be at this point. The B&M artisan you mention makes a soap that is far too strongly scented imo. It felt like being in a candy shop to me.
C&S scents are perfectly balanced.

Interesting. I bought a travel puck of O&C about 5 years ago and the scent was overpowering! I couldn't get it off my brushes no matter how much I rinsed them. It was truly one of the most strongly scented soaps I have ever owned.
Ever since then all I hear about is how weak the scent is. I would've liked the soap a lot better if the scent had not been so strong.

+1 These are at the top of my list of quality soaps.

C&S is the best protecting soap I own, and in my top 5 list for best soaps I've ever tried. The scents are mild and subtle, and also masculine in a classic, refined manner. As already stated, even though expensive, the value is there as it is an extremely hard soap that lasts forever.
You can't go wrong with this one.

I wonder if DR Harris performs the same way as these soap..
+2 I'll agree that Harris is not on the same level as Valobra triple milled soaps. IMO Valobra soaps are the best performing all around.

I really enjoy both the scents and the performance is getting to be one of my best - i say getting to be as i seem to use it better each time as i learn more myself
Not too strong for me - i often find myself just opening the solid container and taking a sniff of the O+C - what a great smell

True, in my opinion they are marvelous soaps. This thread inspired me to use O&C this morning. I think often when people have troubles with them it is simply down to loading too little product before building the lather. This seems to be particularly true of those who are used to using croaps and other soft soaps that load up really quickly. These triple milled pucks require a nice long load to produce the type of lather I am looking for. But when you have adequate product the resulting lather is wonderful.
