Been thinking of having my Streamline re-plated. Has some brassing and would like to bring it up to the new look. Has anyone used Sport Shaving as a razor replater? I've used Razor Emporium in the past, but their cost has gone up significantly this year. For a Nickel replate it's $99. Maybe I should just keep it stock...what you all think?[Image: d16596fcedc87afdd26485f63b76bf6c.jpg]

I bought a razor from Nick on eBay about a year ago, a rhodium plated Gillette New, and was pleased with my purchase.  I don't know what his current prices are however.

Me, too! I haven't sent him a razor to refurb/replate, but I bought an already done rhodium NEW LC several months ago from Nick. I am pleased with the deal and Nick communicated well and was good to do business with.

The Streamline gives a wonderful shave.  I believe that the original plating was chrome, rather than nickel though, and I'm not sure if any of the usual suspects offer chrome finishes.  Another option for re-plating is Reliable Electroplating in Massachusetts http://www.reliableelectroplating.com/index.html.  When I had some razors done a couple years ago their reputation was the best as were their prices.

I didn't realize it was chromium. Saw a posting with the original insert that stated it was chrome. I can always take it to a local chrome plater in my area. Thanks for the info.

Very nice.  What is the guestimated turn around time on it.  In the past I have used razorplate.com and razor empornium and both have taken about 6 weeks.

Nick from SS said it would take about 5 weeks due to backlog. Besides, the cost is significantly less vs. Razor Emporium (price has doubled).

I'm sure it will become a beauty (although, of course, it already is). For me, the funny thing about brassing is the more the plating is gone, the more attractive it becomes. For example, my 1924 Shovelhead has lost all of its plating and is pure, golden brass. To my eye, it's one of my prettiest razors. Like you, I'm thinking about replating my razors with minor plate loss because the two-tone look just doesn't do it for me...

I also have two teen boys and I will pass this art to them. Besides, the longer you wait the more expensive it gets. Check out what Razor Emporium now charges for a Rhodium replate.

Thanks...it's on the aggressive side and therefore use it when I have a couple of days facial hair.

I had 4 vintage razors done by Razor Emporium in rhodium a little over a year ago and it cost me &70 per razor.  Their price has gone up 2.5 times so I sent my old short comb to Nick at Sport Shaving.  He did a fantastic job.  I would highly recommend his service, no complaints from me.
