Anyone have experience with these vie long / epsilon synthetics?
Vl 1 Vl 2 Eps

I'm in the market for my first few shaving brushes and have decided to go with a semogue 1305, VL 12705 blanco and am a little undecided about which synth to choose. Almost settled on the HJM V2 black fibre brush but then came across these VL & epsilon ones that look pretty good for the money!

P.S. - I'm mostly a face + bowl latherer so a 50 mm loft would be best suited for me, at least for face lathering?

Vie-long synthetics are great little brushes. Smile

The knots are similar in a appearance to the v.2 knots currently used by Muhle and EJ and perform equally as well when used in a bowl.

Good to know, thanks!

They have a couple of knot sizes - 21 & 24mm. Which one do you use/ recommend?

The 21mm knot I have has a relatively high loft and this makes it feel a bit springy.

The 24mm knots, on the other hand, are much nicer and I'd definitely recommend going for one of these. Smile

I try and get 24mm knots for my brushes.  My ideal range is 23mm to 25mm.  I don't enjoy using brushes outside this range, but, as always, YMMV.

Thanks!
I was torn between the Muhle HJM black fibre and the 24mm Vie Long. But the Epsilon 15705 looks like a good bet for face lathering as well, with a 24mm knot and 50mm loft.
(Note to self : ADs creeping jn )

Very similar to the STF fibers from Mühle / EJ.

I have an Omega synthetic which I like a lot. My fave though is the Plisson synthetic which I used almost exclusively up to now. I bought though the Vie-Long horse hair one and It's a great latherer with a great feel to it. I intend to use this from now on to give the Plisson a rest.
My Omega boar is good but does not compare with the horse hair. One last thing. I heard that animal hair rushes smell when new. My horse hair one didn't smell at all which made me a bit suspicious.
