Are you referring to Santa Maria Novella's Emulsione Anacolica? If you are I wholeheartedly agree with you.  It is among the 3-4 top balms in my opinion.  The others that I consider comparable are: AdP, Baxter of California and AoS.

SMN Analcolica, ADP and one more contender in my opinion at the same level is Castle Forbes Post Shave Balm.

It's more of a croap.  I load my brush directly in the tub.  Get an nice good load on the brush, then a combo of swirls and brushstrokes on your face.  It's a very easy product to lather.  Enjoy!

Precisely. I take my brush, wet it completely and then shake it till almost all the water is out.. no dripping at all. Load directly from the tub and add a few drops of water as you go. Get a good load on the brush then face lather. As a hint, don't start shaving until you get a nice shiny lather. If it looks like yogurt, dense and no shine, you don't shave! I use this tip with all my soaps not just SMN. Once you get this oily sheen look then you are ready to enjoy this wonderful soap. I'll use it tomorrow and take pics Smile

I just shaved with with SMN a little while ago and it was nothing short of perfection. As promised I took a few pics that hopefully will help. This soap is very very dense and a little goes a long way, so I don't really go crazy loading the brush initially. Just make sure I have enough, through trial and error you'll figure out how much you need to start with to not fall short by 3rd pass or have too much and waste it.
Here is the brush loaded and the soap after loading

As you can see I don't have a crazy amount of lather on the brush initially but I know that this will be sufficient. I don't time loading but I would say probably 45s-1min. Added 2 drops of water at a time3 times during the loading process.

After face lathering and ready for pass#1. This is what I meant in my previous post about shiny lather. Not only this guarantees optimum slickness, but also ensures that your lather is well hydrated and will remain moist between passes and so it won't "melt" or disappear.

After pass #2

And finally after pass #3
[Image: 8930dd2bfc6eb08b2770559511445dd6.jpg]

As you can see even after pass 3 I ended up some lather, I squeezed it out and surely it was enough for another pass. I forgot to take a pic because I was already done and didn't need another pass but really should've snapped it.

Hope you find this helpful

Used it this morning.  I always ask myself the same question: why would I use anything else...?

Ordered some Santa Maria shaving cream and tobacco Toscano cologne today. It will be my first time using these products, although I've smelled both (beautiful scent). Looking forward to shaving with the cream, thanks for your impressions fellas!

Such a cool brush….I think I need this in my life. What are the knot dimensions?
Looks like a 24mm.

Back on topic, can anyone recommend a reliable place to buy this cream from in europe, where the postage
won't break the bank…I find shipping charges from G&C, ShavingIE and TVB to be extremely reasonable.

I agree! That's what I would or if you don't want to play full retail post a WTB here.
