Today, I used another Portuguese shave cream by Confiança, Top Secret, or Lanolizado. Like Confiança's other shave cream that I reviewed, Veleiro, this has lanolin listed as one of its ingredients so I figured I would not be disappointed with the results and I wasn't.

The cream is very easy to make into a lather and that lather lasted through the entire shave without having to go back to the bowl. The lanolin did its work because it felt wonderful on my skin.

The glide was excellent and I found the lather pretty protective. That's quite impressive as I was using a seven day old blade.

Moisturizing and skin softening properties were definitely in evidence, which I expected because of the lanolin.

The major difference for me between the Veleiro and this Top Secret is the scent. While I didn't care at all for the scent of Veleiro, I quite enjoyed the scent of the Top Secret. I cannot think of how to describe this scent but for some reason, upon smelling the cream, it brought back pleasant memories of my childhood in the early to mid 1950s. I am not sure why and have wondered exactly what I am associating that scent with but, ultimately, it comes down to I just plain like it. As always with scent, someone else may disagree completely on whether or not the scent is agreeable.

At Bullgoose, a 125g (4.4 oz.) tube is $9.50 which is a fair price for such a quality cream.

This is a cream that I would not have to think twice about purchasing when my current tube is gone; I like it that much.

I really like Top Secret, also. Its moisturising properties are awesome.
I'm glad you liked it, Freddy!

The scent is described as a mix of rose, musk and woods. And I know that it takes essence of Bulgarian Rose.
There is an interview in the net (in Portuguese) with João dos Anjos, a man that worked in the Confiança factory for more than 60 years, and was the creator of Veleiro and Top Secret creams. One day I'll translate that into English...

Estoril is a nice cream, but its not at the same level than the Ach Brito/Confianca ones I would say.

This is a nice cream but,of all of the Ach Brito/Confianca ones, has the least appealing scent to me.The skin care is top, nothing to argue about it.

I really like Top Secret, the performance and scent are brilliant.
I agree with you, everyone raves about the scent of Veleiro (which is nice), but IMHO the scent of TS is much better.

Via Men is a local brand from a Portuguese supermarket.
Although extremely cheap (less that €2 a tube), it is made by Confiança (makers of Veleiro, Top Secret, O Melhor), and features a citric, lemony scent. The performance is very similar to Veleiro.

LEA/BEA is a Spanish brand, and probably Teiste knows much more than I about it. You can find it at giftsandcare.com (probably among other vendors)

Gil Brandão is a true gentleman, and a good friend as well! Top notch service.

For me Top secret is a top cream,Number_one
It has a floral scent, I have a few Bulgarian Rose soaps and TS cream and these soaps have such common notes in the scent.
I bought two tubes of TS cream in Elvas, near the Spanish border(Elvas is located 100 km. from my house Rolleyes) and the price was €3.90 each one
After using TS cream I use Rose of Bulgaria by Biofresh lotion, it is a great combination Cool
Emanuel, I'd love to read that interview in Portuguese Eusa_whistle

Performance is very good, just like Lavanda and Veleiro creams. Top Secret has a very peculiar scent. To me it smells like a type of Laundry Detergent.Tongue
