I just saw on Facebook that Simpson will be releasing a synthetic version of the Duke 3.

Good looking brush in my favourite colour of handle. Did they post the loft and size of the knot for those of us not on facebook?

Knot diameter and loft were not specified in the Facebook post.  Perhaps the knot specifications will be similar to the badger Duke 3, which would mean approximately a 23mm knot set to a 48mm loft.  This will mean the knot will likely measure 24-25mm at the top of the handle.  It will be interesting to see if Simpson raises the loft a bit because it's a synthetic.  I like the Chubby 2 synthetic just the way it is, but some feel it could benefit from a slightly higher loft.

OK, thank you.

Duke 3 is Duke 3. Knot size can't be changed much or the handle will crack.
All my Duke 3's have been 23 mm, not larger.
They can play with the loft of course, but not with the knot size.

The Chubby synthetic is a great brush when the fibres are given a chance to flex, but it seems as if the factory wants to maintain the brush's reputation for being a wall of "badger" by keeping the lofts low. Lucky are the few who can get the higher-lofted brushes that sneak through to the vendors. I hope this new D3 is given some breathing room.

A synthetic Duke 3?  That makes no sense.  It reminds me of the Ritz Crackers box recipe for "mock apple pie."  Give me apples and hair.

It makes sense if people are willing to pay for it (and synthetics are doing well these days). I'm sure that Mark has done his market research.

If someone wanted a synthetic brush I am also sure that Simpsons is a good place to shop.

I have heard that Simpsons doesn't adjust the loft enough on their synthetic brushes and they don't splay at all.

The picture seems to suggest they have continued this.

They should consider giving it a loft of 52-55mm.

48mm lofted synthetic will not be pleasant.

The Vulfix synthetics all have taller lofts than their Simpson cousins.
