I am a bowl latherer who also face lathers a lot of the time.  I like soft brushes like my Kent BK4 and don't like scritch (but a little scrub is ok).

Here are the brushes I'm looking at...

1. Simpson's Commodore X2
2. Simpson's Colonel X2L
3. Vulfix 2234 silver tip
4. Vulfix 375 silver tip

Thoughts on any of these brushes?

The question is just how soft do you like your brushes.  The Vulfix 2234 and 375 are very soft, but are definitely lacking backbone.  The Simpson X2 and X2L are not quite as soft, but give you more backbone.  If you dislike scritch, you may consider that some people find Simpson Best has scritch.   If you like the Kent BK4, my guess is that you'll prefer the Vulfix.  I think the Vulfix 2234 is a lovely handle.

That follows my thinking TheLegalRazor from what I've read. One thing I need to make sure I understand is that scritch=prickly feeling.  I don't think I'd mind just a little bit of scrub.

In my opinion, you can rule out the Commodore. I had a Commodore x3 before and it was very dense, stiff, good backbone but didn't tickle my fancy. The X2L Colonel is much better in terms of flow through and is less dense. It would be an instant recommendation for something that is good for both bowl and face lathering.

I can't add anything in terms of Vufix. Unfortunately I haven't felt or looked at many Vulfix brushes.

If you like the bk4 you will enjoy the Vulfix 375 in Silvertip. Make sure it is a Silvertip model for the softest hair.

I was very fortunate in my Simpson Commodore. It is as soft or maybe softer than my Simpsons in super. I was not as lucky in my Colonel. It is normal Simpson best hair. Nothing wrong with that but nothing special either.

For a truly special brush at a great price. Soft tips and backbone check out Thater and Shavemac.
