has anyone sourced one recently that had soft tips? If yes, where did you get it?

I ordered one a few months ago and love everything about it, but it is simply too scritchy for me.

Thats weird to have two of the same brushes be that inconsistent.  What grade of hair was it?

It was in best.  I have tried about 6 different Simpson's in Best and none of them had any noticeable scritch.   This one was overloaded to the point of being uncomfortable.

Simpsons best is very well known in being inconsistent

This seems to be a reasonably accurate statement, which my experience supports. I bought a Duke 3 last summer that I truly tried to love with ample benefit of the doubt and considerable time to break in. Never happened. My other Best brushes are soft as can be. Go figure.

Perhaps the reason for the scritchy feel on the Berkeley 46 is the relatively short loft? Maybe try a longer-lofted brush.

I have tried the 56 and also Special both with similar lofts and did not notice any scritch in either.   I guess it is a batch issue and wish I could find one from a vendor that has a soft batch!
