This is sad news. I watched a lot of his movies while growing up and he always brought a smile to my face.

Gene Wilder is one of our all time favorite actors.  We watch his movies every year, and Young Frankenstein twice a year.  RIP Gene, you brought many smiles and much laughter to us.

I was in a West L.A. chinese takeout with then girlfriend Anne; tall Katherine Hepburn type spoiled by New Age woo woo. A man was trying to exit with to many sacks of those white containers with the red chinese temples. I took a few and walked with him the few steps to his car. I was slowly realising who he was. I asked how the food was? Oye, my Ann and I love this stuff, his sharp ear picking up my Anne's name. He feined worried looks up and down the street. Just don't tell my Rebi! This isn't exactly Kosher from Fairfax ( L.A.s major jewish community)and we laughed as he got in with a quick handshake and drove off. Anne stands there looking whispy tall take me 'who was that silly little jewish man'? That is a very silly little jewish man Anne, and we went in for lunch. The biggest joke she missed? It was formerly a Swedish Smorgasborg called THE VIKING INN that went bust. Chinese were to money conscious to change the name or decor. Inside were massive oak communal tables with these viking ship murals on the walls. What a kismet combination of talent went into their 3 movies.

Here in Cleveland, we have a good-sized theater district. Every summer, they put up a big movie screen at the Palace and show classic films.  I took my daughter to see Major League this year (one of her favorites), but we got to see Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory from the upper balcony.  We had a great time, and she absolutely loved the movie.  We'll miss you, Gene!

He was a favorite to 3 generations of my family. Of all the actors that have recently passed, this one is particularly tough.

So sad

Mel Brooks is about to appear on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

Very curious to see his reaction.  So many of his compatriots have passed
