Hi Gents,

Here's a recent mal call, two straight from John & Willam Ragg ! The first one :

Very interesting, the spacer continues underneath the razor blade to end up at the shoulder, all in one piece of metal... The blade is near mint, a few passes on the strop and the shave was awesome !

The second Ragg is a "Napoleon", and I must say, quite the looker :

Back is shiny, blade has a satin effect, with a flourish decor made by acid engraving. Curved tang shows a tiny droplet, which I love. There were some dents on the edge, so I sent it to a fellow member for restoration. And it got back yesterday :

Pics make it look like a butter knife, but it's actually VERY thick, I could hammer nails with it !

Tried it this morning, very nice ! SOTD picture will come tomorrow. With better pictures as well, it deserves it. Tongue

Thank you Ed Wink

So, I used the bad boy yesterday, here's the SOTD pic :

A bit scratchy, but efficient ! And so pretty... Now then, I learned a bit more : both razors come directly from the private collection of the J & W Ragg family, sold off by the last descendants. The collection was cataloged with dates and notes in the 1930s by the last member of the Ragg family actively involved in razor-making.

Lovely looking blade absolute shame about the crack in the Ivory scales, If that were mine I would be on the look out for a vintage replacement set of Ivory scales.

Vintage ivory with a patina can hardly be duplicated by any new/old stock. Cracks are often part of the equation with ivory and can be stabilised if necessary.
