[Image: 20160908_121632_zpsmn1n1eps.jpg]After over two years of searching on-and-off I finally have a Barbasol Floating Head in my possession.
Purchased it from a nice older gentleman who was selling off his collection. It was his Fathers and was well taken care of for an 83 year old razor.

I will shave with it tomorrow and post my thoughts but for now it sits on my razor shelf being admired.

Nice one too!

Congratulations.

I used mine the other day. It's an after coffee razor for sure.

So here it comes the stupid newbie's question: what's a floating head?

Barbasol made a couple different razors back from 1932-1934.

The first design was pretty much a "Gillette style" razor, a mild razor. The second series was a more aggressive style and was known as a Floating Head.
The "Floating Head" refers to the way the Cap appears to float over the Guard without visible support.

You can see this compared to my '11 R41 I have pictured on the right:

I've never hear of one, let alone seen one before now.  That is a good looking razor.  It also seems to be in great shape.  Did you have to do much cleaning to get it looking that nice?  Or was it just kept that way?  Also, the blade exposure on the floating head seem so much greater than the other.  Let us know about it's aggressiveness.

Thanks for the compliment. The razor arrived to me pretty much in the shape of what is seen here, I just gave it a quick Scrubbing Bubbles soak like I do to all my preowned razors and off I went a-shaving.
I wanted to get a couple shaves with it under my belt before posting and tonite was shave #3 so I feel I have a good grasp of the razor.

Pro's:
I love the grip of this razor, of the 10 DE razors I currently own the Barbasol is hands down the best. Deep knurling makes for a secure, non-slip grip, even when the razor is wet.
I like the way the top cap covers the gripping sides of the razor blade. More than once I nicked my ear while shaving a little too close with other razors, this is a non issue with the Floating Head. I wish all razor companies did this.
The razor has a quality feel while shaving with it. It's not the heaviest razor I own but it is substantial weighing in at a measured 89 grams. It feels like a fine tool in your hands. There is also something special about shaving with a Vintage razor that is tough to put into words.

Cons:
I like aggressive razors and this definitely falls in that category. While it's nowhere near the brute as my '11 R41 you still have to watch yourself with pressure as well as angle so in that respect I wouldn't advise it as a starter razor for someone just getting into Wetshaving.
If a R41 is a 10 on the aggressive scale than I would say that The Barbasol is a 8.5. For reference I say my FaTip Grande as well as my Merkur 37C come in a 8.

Is it my favorite razor?
That has yet to be determined as it will be tough to unseat my favorite: a Sabi T2 paired with a Cadet Open Comb head. Aggressive and Oh so smooth. I will go back and forth this coming week and see where I stand but for now I'm just glad I finally have a Floating Head in my collection.

Congrats! It's a looker!

Same as your assessment, I did hear this razor is on the aggressive side. I'd love to have one too just too add to the collection if I find one at a good price. You're lucky.

Shave #4 done with a fresh Super Iridium today. Not one weeper. It fits in well with it's aggressive "Brothers"

From left to right:

Barbasol Floating Head, '11 Muhle R41, Merkur 37C Slant, Sabi T2 with a Open Comb Cadet head, and Fatip Grande Open Comb.

Figured I'd give the brown Vintage Polisilver blade a test with todays shave:

Soap: Mitchell Wool Fat
Brush: Semogue Owners Club in Boar
Razor: Barbasol Floating Head

Didn't even have the guts to follow with some Clubman, two weepers and a nasty cut on the chin proves why I don't use these blades much these day. Very sharp blades which leaves no room for error with the Barbasol. Think I'll stick to my Super Iridiums with this aggressive razor.
